Sony Xperia XZ1, XZ1 Compact, XA1 Plus price and release date

There aren't too many manufacturers who release smartphones as frequently as Sony. The Japanese company has been dishing out both high-end and mid-range models on a six-month basis for quite some time now, and it just announced the latest members of the Xperia family at IFA.

The new Xperia XZ1, XZ1 Compact, and XA1 Plus are quite an interesting bunch. The first two can be seen as successors to the 2016 Xperia XZ rather than the 2017 XZ Premium, while the third one looks like a cross-breed between the XA1 and XA1 Ultra

If you're interested in purchasing either of the three handsets, you're probably wondering when they will be available and at what price. This information can be seen in the table below, so save the date and get your wallet ready. Keep in mind that prices in Euro currently aren't available, but we suspect that Sony will just change the currency sign and stick to the same numbers.

Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact$599.99October 4, 2017

"Hey guys, please buy our handsets! They're pretty much worse than the competition in every conceivable way, and we feel like charging a premium for mediocrity. We don't understand why our strategy isn't working!" -Sony

How could you say Sony's new smartphones are mediocre? Then Apple's iPhones would win the award in mediocre. The Z1 compact is a little bit bigger than an iPhone SE, yet it has a HD display, cat 15 LTE, Bluetooth 5, a really fast 19 MP camera waterproof, with stereo speakers, 8 MP front facing camera. Latest SD 835 with 4 GB of RAM and 32 GB of expandable storage. For a starting price of $599. What is mediocre about it?

Everything. It's also possible for multiple things to be mediocre at the same time. 32GB is mediocre. No fps is mediocre. $599 is just a bad price point for what you get. If Sony were to price their devices competitively it would be one thing. But they keep peddling the same designs, the same barely iterative features, the same outdated user experience, and the same promises of a better camera that never delivers. They continue to fail in the mobile market by selling devices at a premium that simply do not match the competition, nor do they attempt top even remotely push the envelope. Mediocre is probably the nicest way to describe them.

But it has a fps. Takes 5 minutes to enable it. It's really not that difficult. Now obviously you'd already want it enabled but for some reason they can't do it in the US. But it really is super easy to enable.
