Samsung's new wireless charging pad (for Galaxy S6 and S6 edge) to cost $59

Since Samsung's latest flagship smartphones, the Galaxy S6 and S6 edge, both have built-in wireless charging capabilities, Samsung introduced a brand new wireless charging pad for them. Samsung will probably launch this charging pad - pictured above - at the same time with the S6 and S6 edge (on April 10), though the company didn't say how much the accessory would cost.

According to Canadian carrier Fido, the round wireless charging pad will cost $59.99 in Canada. This price was revealed in a Tweet that has been deleted, but Canadian website MobileSyrup managed to take a screenshot of it. Apparently, Rogers and Fido will offer the wireless charger for free to customers who buy the Galaxy S6.

Samsung is already taking pre-orders for the Galaxy S6 and S6 edge, though only in Europe for now. Prices for the Galaxy S6 start at €699, while the cheapest Galaxy S6 edge model (32 GB) costs €849. We assume that, in the US, the two handsets will cost as low as $699 and $849, respectively - although, of course, carriers will offer them for much less on contract.

This is just suggested MSRP. Will be cheaper once it hits Amazon. As always the case with accessories.

I hope you are right. To think my $30 Nokia wireless charge was high... lol

If you think this is high priced, I own a wireless charger dock by Aerios which was $95 (australian dollar, which equals 75 us dollars) (ss-chargers/)

Ha! Don't forget it's Apple who charges $35 for a pathetic Lightning cable in Canada. In comparison, at least you get more value for your money here...

Rumor has it that the BS 40 day delay to release the S6 is so they can do it on the same day as the Apple Watch. To try to steal some of the attention. What a lame move. It will just get lost in the Apple Watch hype and is punishing potential customers by deliberately keeping the phones OFF of store shelves. Sometimes Samsung just sucks!

Ladies and gentleman, we have a paranoid Apple fan here. Calm your t*ts and sleep well if you think it'll drown the GS6 & GS6 Edge.

Are you serious? The only reason I stayed with Apple is that the samsung looked so cheap and poorly constructed that I wouldn't go near it, not because I'm not intelligent enough to use it you narrow minded twit! Finally Samsung has delivered the goods. I was going to buy one m9 but it fell way short of my expectations, and the Galaxy far exceeded them, so well done Samsung you just earned a apple customer. It's not just what the phone can do it's the materials used the user interface, the design and finally they've gotten it right all the way down to Samsung pay. Iphone 6 didn't inspire me much but S6 edge has.

Hardly an Apple fan. All Samsung talked about was Apple during their press conference. The whole point is I WANT the f'ing S6 and don't want to wait 40 days for it.

Seriously? Good thinking there. It's still a major Apple launch and Samsung would like to disrupt it with their own major launch. Doesn't have to be the same product...

They try the same thing every year and all it does is somehow advertise for apple.

.... Considering Apple always launches their mobile products in September and the Galaxy S series is always in February and March... I'm curious how you came to that conclusion. Apple doesn't have mobile product releases in the first quarter. This is an anomaly.

Pretty sure it has been the same every year with the release coming a month or two after the announcement.

No need to get worked up. If Samsung is right about the S6's wireless charging capability, any charging pad competently made should work with the S6 and the Edge. No need for an "official" charging pad.

Whether it's worth it or not greatly depends on how fast it charges.

If I get this phone I would be more interested in the morphie battery case. I spent $50 on 2 cases and another $50 on my Note 4 spare battery and external charger. Right there is $100.

The design is hideous, just like the ugly phone. The Lumia Nokia charger looks stunning, and very modern, and stylish.

I agree with that costing too much if they want wide adoption.

On one hand, consumers always want to save as much money as possible. On the other, businesses exist to turn a profit and selling low-end low-priced products has never worked unless you're churning them out and selling them on a truly massive scale. If you can't afford a flagship or its accessories, buy a mid-range or low-end phone. Companies aren't obligated to make anything affordable, especially not their top of the range model.

People forget that the phone works with both Qi and PMA. You don't have to buy this accessory. You can buy one of the many other PMA or Qi chargers out there. I'll be using my Samsung Qi charger I got using the 50% off coupon on accessories from Samsung's website when you register your phone with Samsung. With the coupon, it was $25.

It is pricey but so was the Nexus 5 charger. I would buy it for $59 for the same reason I bought the nexus 5 charging pad though because it just looks so cool. Haha Besides $59 cdn is like $40 American right now. Lol
