Samsung turns to Vogue to promote its Galaxy S5 and Gear wearables, the results are pretty hot

Samsung recently collaborated with fashion magazine Vogue, organizing a photo shoot featuring the Galaxy S5 smartphone, the Gear 2 and Gear Fit wearables, and English model Eliza Cummings.

The photo shoot’s main purpose was to “present the harmony between technology and fashion.” In the words of Yuri Jung (Senior Manager of Mobile Communications, Launching Marketing Group at Samsung Electronics), the whole experience “shows the effort of establishing the shift of Samsung as the brand of smart, that brings technology innovation, to the brand of cool that appeals to the consumers emotionally.”

While we don’t know if Samsung’s coolness will be significantly boosted after all this, we have to agree that some of the photos came out great. Though, that doesn’t necessarily means that people who see them will go out to the nearest store and spend their cash on Samsung gadgets. Anyway, Vogue readers in 11 countries will find 6 pages full of these photos in this month’s issue of the magazine. Moreover, some photos will be "available pretty much everywhere, including retail shops around the world." Well, it's certainly good to have huge marketing budgets, isn't it?

This just makes the girls look ugly. Also, please Vogue! If you're reading this, cheap plastic tupperware and toy watches don't look good next to bracelets like those.

Lmao. Yes put an apple iFeaturePhone. Oh wait. It has widgets and keyboards now wow. It's no longer a phone with apps and facebook. It also has an iF@rt button inside. Man how they could not see the light. How is samsung slowly eating apple. Apple is made out of 1981 mercedes E280 metal. People should appreciate this :(. Go to hell. #WidgetsAreSo2010 #AppleFeelsLikeSybian #OldManMagic.

You need a gf, or a psychiatrist, or both. The iPhone works fantastically compared to some of my Android devices I also own. Galaxy phone, Galaxy tab, Ipad Mini - much better than Galaxy Tab. It freezes touching it ALLLL the time. Very annoying. I just gave that one to a relative due to that fact. All devices are good for one thing or another - there is no device that is 100% bad all around. You have a messed up attitude think your samsung device is that much superior? You had those features in 2010 but lets face it, they worked like ass... I remember haivng Android phone in 2011 also as my main phone. It was like having a dull Swiss knife. All these features, none were sharp enough - while the iphone wasl like having a single blade switch blade, yea, but it was sharp as hell!

lmaoooooooo. an apple buutthurt.commenting. none of these were sharp. HAHAHAHAHAHA. so now apple takes it 4 years later and makes it sharp. lmao. I had widgets, 3rd party keyboards and live wallpapers all the time on my GS2 back then and they worked PERFECTLY. and I got bored of these and i vowed for simplicity with my GS3 and it was the last time I used 3rd party keyboards and I only use widgets for weather now and a few apps. In the times of widgets I had widgets apps, multiple keyboards and many live wallpapers and these "technology" items were great for 2010-2011 not now. Many relatives have apple devices and the most annoying are iPads as I see those in kids hands and man these are deprived devices. like wow there's nothing in these truly NOTHING other than apps. I would like my tablet to have a bit of flexibility, and why use a 250$ galaxy tab? buy a 350$ Galaxy Tab pro 8.4, super sharp super fast and super awesome. and I still have a Galaxy Tab 10.1 running old ICS for work and with all the beatings and use, it still runs all the games and still feels new. so you guys need to wake up. #FreakinDinosaurs #StoneAge #CameraNowHasHDR

If you have no style or fashion sense, just throw the world's largest tech marketing budget at buying some style by association. The lemmings will eat this up. "See? It IS stylish, because Vogue said so!"

Samsung has dozens of commercials and ads showcasing the practicality of their product line and how to use them (unlike some other companies). So they have the useful information end of the advertising gamut pretty well covered. I don't see a downside to covering the other end of the spectrum and appealing to those who shop for products based on if they're "cool" or "fashionable" or not. Covering all your bases is pretty much Samsung's MO in the mobile space be it in their product range or advertising. Of course, to each his own on their beliefs about how effective that is. In all fairness, I severely doubt the average commentator on PA articles is anything like the average consumer, and will look at and react to this type of marketing differently than the masses. For the record, I went with the HTC One M8 and my brother has the S5, but I do commend Samsung's marketing efforts.

your not alone, I know plenty of people with the s5 who say its ugly, so they find other things to make them like it, I forgot what they call it in psychology, where we get something and doesn't live up to what you want, but we find a way to turn a positive eye towards and settle for it. They are some who even lie to themselves because they had all the other galaxies they didn't want to jump ship to not look loyal or be trendy like their friends by buying what everyone else have which is either a iphone or s5 even though they are itching to try another device. Then theres the causal who will say its the only phone to go toe to toe with the iphone, so since they want to be different from the iphone owners they will rep Samsung, but no matter which type I talk about they all say the s5 is ugly..........The truth is, if samsung had shown a second version of the same phone that look sexy as htc, lg, and nokia phones, and they ask customers to choose, all the people will choose the other model......they only like it cause its the only s5 in that design

Or, maybe some folks just value function over form, and their smartphone is more than just a fashion accessory to them. I personally don't care what others think of my phone's looks, I care what it can do and that it does it well. I can always put a case on it (and I usually do for any phone). I can't throw a better camera on the M8, or make the iPhone screen higher res.

that some folks are geeks/enthusiasts and OCs. :) that's why Iphone sells despite their outdated specs and lack of performance... that's the real market. there where you find average people, whom you call "stupid" just because you know more in technology than them... :)

You make it sound like Samsung barely sells their devices.
