Samsung to launch its budget Galaxy M line in India first before a global release

Samsung's new Galaxy M budget line has already been outed, and we expect to see the Galaxy M10, Galaxy M20 and Galaxy M30 surface within weeks. The new models will launch first in India at the end of this month before they are rolled out globally, according to Reuters. Samsung has seen its Indian market share deteriorate thanks to strong sales by Chinese manufacturer Xiaomi. Samsung hopes to fight back with the Galaxy M line, which will replace the Galaxy J series (that's the 2018 Galaxy J8 pictured at the top of this article).

The new phones will be available in India only through Samsung's own website and via Amazon India. The handsets will be priced from 10,000 to 20,000 rupees ($142 to $284 USD) and will feature hefty batteries and quick charging. The entry-level Galaxy M10 is rumored to be equipped with a 5.6-inch LCD screen, and is expected to be powered by the Exynos 7870 chipset. The device will reportedly include 3GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage, and carry a 3000mAh battery. A 13MP camera is said to adorn the back of the phone, with a 5MP selfie snapper in front.

The Galaxy M20 is expected to feature a 6.1-inch LCD display. The Exynos 7885 SoC is rumored to be under the hood along with 3GB of RAM and 64GB of native storage. A dual camera setup will reportedly adorn the back of the device (12MP + 5MP) with an 8MP front-facing selfie snapper. Keeping the lights on will be a 5000mAh battery.

India remains the second largest smartphone market in the world, with more than 1 billion wireless subscribers. Still, 350 million people in the country have yet to purchase a smartphone. Xiaomi has been able to capitalize on the country's developing economy with its value pricing model. Data from research firm Counterpart indicates that Samsung, the world's largest smartphone manufacture, had a lower market share in India than Xiaomi for two of the first three quarters of last year. Fourth quarter data has yet to be released.
