Samsung pays people to protest outside Australian Apple Store; goal is to mock iSheep culture
Samsung is really trying to push this image of Apple iPhone and Apple iPad users as sheep. After releasing a video that did everything but directly call out all users of Apple devices as sheep, the Korean based manufacturer has ratcheted things up a notch. This week, Samsung paid an Australian marketing company called Tongue to provide protesters to stand in front of an Australian Apple Store and scream, "Wake Up!" The protesters were bused to a location and started the chant that is designed to tell iOS users that they need to wake up and stop blindly following other iOS users.

At the same time, Samsung has put up a "Wake Up!" Australia web site that includes a countdown timer currently at 8,330,000 which is probably counting down toward the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S III, "The next Samsung Galaxy" or whatever the device is going to be called. Visit the site by clicking on the sourcelink. In the meantime, check out how aggressive Samsung has become by clicking on the video below!

samsung should be thanking apple for giving them ideas on their mobile phones and tablet. without apple, there will be no galaxy phones and tablets and record profit.

I wouldn't call it "desperate" because Galaxy S II was awarded the best phone of 2012. I would call it "rude awakening".

First of all who told that this has been done by Samsung? Where is the proof that this has been conducted by Samsung?

Author Alan, can you please change the subject? There is no where in the video it was by Samsung... This is really bad, posting something about a company when they didn't do anything.. You(Alan) should be treated for that badly first...

Yeah I agree with you. Allan should not post this kind of article without any proof. This apply also to other companies even for apple. I will believe if samsung name is being display during the campaign but nothing. Not all protest or campaign against apple samsung is liable for it. Allan should feel embarrassed about this, not appple or samsung. He ruined his good writing skills. Sorry I pressed the wrong button instead of thumbs up I pressed the other one: (

Thanks for the thumbs up. I hate to say it but Apple is just creating products who create followers because it's the in thing. Think outside the box and liberate yourselves folks.

So according to Samsung those who buy an iPhone is an iSheep? What a shame for a company thinking like that. What about iSheep users who both love Android and iOS? This is ridiculous.

This is cheap marketing . I don't think Samsung need to do all these . They are making excellent and best products . I don't understand why they are doing these .

Ok,i just saw the video and to me, there is nothing at all to imply that these people were paid by anyone, actually, there is nothing that says who they were telling to wake up and why, but phone arena already seems to know. Is this site sponsored by apple or what? This is not the first time you are trying to defame other companies, you do it very often with nokia and windows phone, now you are doing it with samsung and android too. Last time you guys even wrote an article praising apple, how they are leaders in innovation. You have lost my trust!

I rad articles and comments everyday in this site. I feel a lot of articles are more at android side than apple side

Wakeup Australia! A company dare to says you are sleeping. The company pay Australian people to mocking their own country. Embarassed!

I know why samsung do this. it's because even samsung take a promotion A$2 for SGS2 in front iPhone 4s' line at australia, there's none of iSheep interesting to their product. What a shame!

This is ludicrous. This is not helping samsung's brand image at all. They're just upset because their better spec gs2 isn't selling as well as apple's product. If they want to win over apple customers, they shouldn't be shouting at them and telling th they're stupid, they should be marketing their own product. Why not plaster a poster with a gs2 outside the window of the apple store rather than protesting?

why not spend the money on Ads to show everyone why your product is better? How does it benifit you to call your compition customers names? I just think it would be better to show them what their missing out on with android and not just lable them as followers because some people like the iphone for more than just "it's made by apple".

because they already give up. samsung already shows their product none better the apple's product, actually. samsung's ads can not works to gain sympathies and they try to attack the apple's user because they tired to change apple's user loyalty. samsung try to do this at the countries who has biggest apple users on a country.

You guys really need to do a little bit more journalistic research (and some maths along the way). The countdown timer does not even end in correlation with the Samsung event at May 3rd at London (May 4th, 4.00am AET Australian Eastern) – it ends approximately 3 freaking days after on May 6 around 3.00pm GMT+10. So that precludes this racket has anything to do with the new phone or Samsung. It does however involve the many issues raised by some independent groups in my country (WAKE UP AUSTRALIA is one of them), which seem to be what the real protest is about – raising economic uncertainty, unecessary (mideast) wars, ugly consumerism, global resource dis-appropriation and political mismanagement of funds, monopolistic banks etc etc… you know, the "real" world issues. Apple was probably first of many singled out due to it being a very visible icon and is a contentiously ‘guilty’ contributor to part of these issues. Cue the same protest news generated by Greenpeace on Apple's 'un-green' energy use - yes, you'd better believe there ARE other interest groups out to get Apple and the likes. In the video, the blogger even mentioned the group moved onto other locations downtown. Similar mob groups of the same campaign were also in Melbourne and other major aussie cities, although nowhere near an Apple store. They were against those corporate and financial big-wigs to send their message accross. In saying so, I have absolutely no relation or interest in their 'cause'...just outlining how narrow-minded some people can choose to be when arriving to conclusions about what they see - Samsung vs Apple??? LOL, really... remove your blinkers next time - there are actually much bigger concerns in the world than this!

Well, those Australian customers who purchase the iPhone will feel embarrassed when they see someone with a GS2 or GS3....
