Samsung Galaxy S8 rumored to sport a UHD resolution screen and dual camera setup

Samsung Galaxy S8 rumored to sport a UHD resolution screen and dual camera setup
The latest rumor about a dual camera setup has nothing to do with the Apple iPhone 7 Plus. It actually has to do with a phone that probably won't be introduced until next February, the Samsung Galaxy S8. Word out of China is that the next iteration of Samsung's flagship smartphone will feature a dual camera module on the back of the phone. The rumor says that this will be a home grown component devised by Samsung Motors (Semco).

With the increasing popularity of VR, the Samsung Galaxy S8 is expected to feature a 4K resolution screen (2160 x 3840). A screen like that will no doubt consume battery life like crazy. If the rumor is true, we can expect a massive juicer inside the handset.

The Samsung Galaxy S8 could be driven by the Snapdragon 830 chipset. The chip will be produced using the 10nm FinFET process which means that it will provide more power, but will also be energy efficient.

There is no word on whether the phone will keep the IP68 rating for dust and water resistance, but we are pretty confident that a lot more leaks about the phone lay ahead. Heck, we're still waiting for the unveiling of the Samsung Galaxy Note 7.

Thanks for the tip!

Rumored? Wait a minute... it was me who started these rumors. Namely, as soon as you reported Iphone7 with dual camera, I predicted S8 to follow. Its always the same pattern, no need for oracle here...

Really? We were hearing rumors of other phones since January. Its already June Bruh! The next S will be out in 8 months. They are already rumors about the 2017 iPhone, and the 2016 model hasnt even been released yet. That over a year away. Did you say it there too?

I still believe that smartphones without VR needs nothing more than FHD resolution

I remember FHD was the battery offender 2 years back, now it's minimum FHD. With the daydream platform, I think UHD is going be the norms for coming 2017/2018 phones.

it depends on the size .. 4.7-5.3 inches 1080p is enough , 5.5 and up needs 1440p you can see the difference

You will still have people with eagle eyes saying how they can tell the difference. Still liking 1080p. That's on my 55 inch big screen. 1080p on my phone looks sharp enough for me.

you actually do see the pixels in the vr since it is magnified. 1080p on a 55 inch tv wont make a big difference since you are sitting way back. if you using a vr screen pixels do matter. its like playing a game with ultra settings and medium settings. that said. only phones whos going big on the vr scene should only care about it and if samsung is to implement this screen, i think they will lower the resolution for daily stuff just like the xperia z5 premium.

if you cant tell, the difference between 1080 and anything higher your full of s!!! if you have 1080p at 24p bluray or 60p from cable tv you can tell the difference any one can how do you think they sell new tv's look if your dont have money and cant afford 4k uhd or higher dont go around saying you cant tell. my 55 inch 1080p tv at the bottom of my bed that am typing this on is great but my 60inch 4k in the living room is way better, detail and clarity

When your eyes gets used to 2k screens, you will immediately tell the difference when moving back to 1080 screen. Trust me, I always said that I wouldn't tell the difference and that 1080 with better battery life is better, but when I moved from the Note 5 to HTC A9, I was able to easily notice the pixels when I was reading something or watching media while laying down and the phone is a bit close to my face.

@Maherk Long time no see, lad... What's the matter? You and Twitchy Teachie are the face of PA Comments section! Anyhow, you might have an eyesight of a hawk, but not everyone is so lucky... Including me! I could never see a difference between 300PPI and 500+...! Even with my bloody glasses, Ha! So, think as a HERD and not as a "sheep", savvy? G'Day!™ (Yup, lots of things have happened in your absence, including this (™) you now see with my beloved G'Day! People are trying to steal it now... Can you believe it?!!)

I totally agree with you coz I feel the same when I switch from using 6P to 6S. It's not a pleasant experience at all using 6S the moment you switch from 6p. Say what you want, my 6S definitely doesn't have the best of the displays out there.

It's psychological then, as it still has about the same amount of subpixels because of the pentile matrix.

So I am guessing there isn't even a difference in sharpness between the Galaxy S1 and S7, because both have the same subpixel arrangement? Lmao Think before you type my friend.

My bad, I thought the A9 had an RGB IPS LCD display but it does have a pentile matrix AMOLED display as well.

Because you can see a difference. 1440p vs 1080p, the details are sharper, the colors are more vibrant. Text is sharper. If you can tell the difference, you need better eye-wear or something. I can see my Note display at 1440p is way better than the S4 which is 1080p sitting at home.

thats because nexus 4 just came out where u are lol just kidding man, look 720 is fine if you dont watch tv Netflix on it or vr headset, but trust me when i tell u this qhd is not enough for amazing vr

Nothing wrong with 720p, lad... If the rumour is true, then the next Sammy Behemoth would be a worthless piece of latest tech... How good is a phone if it can barely last a day on full charge even with a mega battery, you tell me... So, Sammy make a separate VR Variant of The S Series as not EVERYONE loves VR, unlike PA's bold claim... G'Day!

Silly statement since the fill factor for AMOLED 4k screens was said to be similar to current high end AMOLED screens. Which means that only extra CPU and GPU taxation is a factor... if or when you make use of the higher resolution. Which is a choice now, so it will likely still be then. Run 4k for VR if you want to, lower resolution for other uses if desired. For normal use no downside worth mentioning.

First off, you have no idea how long the phone will last. You also dont knwo what size battery it will have. In fact you don't know a lot about this phone. What I do know is the S6/S7 both last longer than many phones with both 720p and 1080p displays. The iPhone being one of them that the S's beat easily. Considering the fact the S and Note both do more than every phone sold on this planet and they last longer too shows that the phone is very efficient with its superior hardware.

1080p for normal and jump to 4k for VR!!! Otherwise too much s**t!!

that UHD just a waste of battery... just make GearVR with built-in display (2x 4K screen 90FPS), internal sensors, and below 20ms latency, just like daydream standard.. and I'm sold hopefully S8 will have enough processing power to drive that

That would cost a lot. The whole point of the Gear VR is to use the smartphone display for VR purposes, for a smaller VR experience

I rather get a free Gear VR for the 4K S8 than buying another new stand-alone VR for $600.
