Samsung Galaxy On8 goes official with 5.5-inch AMOLED, octa-core processor and more

Over the weekend Samsung teased the Galaxy On8, a stylish, powerful device aimed towards the Asian market. Today, the company has revealed the specs and pricing details ahead of the handset's roll-out on October 2nd.

The Galaxy On8 includes a 5.5-inch, 1080 x 1920 AMOLED display, the 1.6 GHz Exynos 7580 octa-core processor and 3 gigs of RAM. The dual-SIM handset boasts 32 GB of base storage that can be expanded via microSD (up to 256 GB), and runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box.

Elsewhere, the Galaxy On8 includes a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera with LED flash, f/1.9 aperture and 1080p video capture. There's a 5-megapixel snapper on the front for selfies. The 4G-capable handset includes VoLTE support, while a 3300 mAh battery keeps the Galaxy On8's lights on.

How much will this handset cost, we hear you ask? Well, it will launch this coming Sunday, October 2nd on Flipkart for Rs. 15,900 --  just shy of $240 in US money. Of course, while it's set for Asia, there's no reason why you couldn't import the handset if you like what you see. It may set you back more than the $240 equivalent selling price throughout India, though.

Good specs and price tag, though not a big bang for the buck like the Xiaomi Mi 5 which retails at a similar price tag. Will be worth getting, if Samsung promises timely updates for the On8.

Mi5 costs almost twice this phone in India, and that's for the lower end mi5 with the underclocked SD 820.

No ,it does not cost twice in India. And as a Samsung product ,you cannot even compare it with Xiaomi. After all it will have a full hd amoled which is better than the 700$ "out of stock" iPhone. The only downside is that ,it does not have a fp sensor.

It costs 15k whereas the low end version of mi5 costs 25k. That's about 70% more and hence you can't compare these devices.

Specs are good but then again Sammy is starting to confuse the customers. J series - Midrange phone with decent specs and Amoled J Prime Series - Metal, Finger print sensor, IPS LCD - A new series should have been created On - Entry Level specs with good battery life, TFT display WTF does On8 now have a Full HD panel and AMOLED. Pure s**t. Samsung is nuts again. I am beginning to not like what Sammy is doing but I don't think there is an alternative.

Thats what i was thinking in developing countries like india samsung has the bad reputation of flooding the market with their overpriced junks. But i do think galaxy on 8 is a good deal for a people who wants to experience full hd amoled display with a touch wiz experience.

I fail to see how these are "Good specs"... Single channel 32-Bit DDR3 RAM... Old. Mali-T720MP2 GPU clocked at just 600Mhz... Ancient. And it wasn't considered "FAST" even in its heydays actually... Pathetic... 1.5Ghz Cortex-A53... Old & slow at just 2.1 DMIPS per Mhz. Why not A57...? 28nm (Nano Meter) processor die... HUGE (Not a compliment)... Bigger die = More wasted power = More heat = More battery consumption, savvy? The way I see it, its a 'sucky' version of Mediatek's Helio P10 (Which is basically a 'mid-range' SoC)... P10 has a Mali-T860 GPU clocked at 700Mhz, same A53s and the same processor die size, but clocked at much MUCH higher and respectable 2.0Ghz... And it also supports dual channel DDR3 RAM, so go figure...! "Good Specs", eh Trojan? Probably because it says "Samsung" on the cover, I presume? Come-on Green... What do you expect from Monsieur Trojan...??? You certainly can't expect a 'level-headed' comment from him when it comes to Samsung Products, eh? Oh well... G'Day!

I was talking about specs-to-price ratio. Those aren't good in the sense of the word "good" itself, but those specs are good enough for the price tag mentioned in this article! Trojan certainly can't expect a 'level-headed' response from you, when it comes to attacking Android fans, eh?

There are $150 Phones with Helio P10...! And The Snapdragon 616 totting Huawei 5X cost just $200... Knowing Samsung's pricing, it'll likely cost in the realm of $300... You know a LOT about Samsung and yet you're acting like a little child here...! eh? G'Day!

Cooper, The Huawei 5X is a MILES better smartphone... And guess what, it costs just around $200...! 5X has a Snapdragon 616... Which is MILES (Okay, more like Kilometers) ahead of this "Exynos"... And besides, EMUI is much MUCH quicker than Touchwiz and has relatively "LESS" bloat to boot... Then lets not forget Nexus 5X with a Snapdragon 808... Not a phablet per se, but screen is still fairly big at 5.2"... This On8 will probably cost in the realm of $300, provided it makes its way overseas... So... I know what I'd rather have! Yup, a Nexy...! G'Day!

SD616? btw, not bad pricing for samsung brand... they usually sell this kind of specs for $350+ (just look at galaxy A7(2016), SD615, 3GB RAM, 16GB storage for $440)

You should take into consideration that the A7 2016 got a superior build quality than this On8.

Is the internal 16GB or 32GB? Because most of the sites say it is 16GB. Kindly do confirm #PhoneArena
