Report: Next Huawei flagship will feature an iPhone X-like notch

The weird notch that's probably the defining trait of the iPhone X seems like a love or hate affair, as you can either like it or find it annoying. In any case, let's agree that it's a controversial feature that might or might not make it in future iPhones.

Just like many times in the past, Apple and Android smartphones market are borrowing design features or technologies from each other. Obviously, that's not bad at all since we all want the best of the best when we buy a new flagship.

Well, it looks like Huawei wants to take that controversial notch design feature, which is also part of the Android-powered Essential Phone, and put it on one of its upcoming flagships, possibly the P11. XDA-Developers reports they have found evidence in official Huawei firmware files in the form of an overlay image that's referenced in a configuration file that defines the “RoundCornerDisplay.”

Moreover, a configuration file is more specific and refers to one of the system build properties as a “notch.” The image attached to the article has been recreated from the overlay image found in the firmware files.

Another detail that seems to confirm the information is the resolution of the Huawei P11's display. According to the report, the phone has a 6.01-inch display with 2160 x 1080 pixels resolution, but the boot animation suggests that the phone uses a 2244 x 1080 resolution. This particular discrepancy in resolution points to a change in design, namely the notch.
