Poll results: How often do you use your phone's personal assistant (Google Now, Siri, Cortana)?

Like wearable tech, nobody is really certain that digital assistants can or will disrupt the current status quo, at least in the short term. Yet, most of us see the potential there, and some are already actively making use of it. What percentage, however? Without surveying the general public, it's hard to tell. So, on Tuesday, we did exactly that, asking you to share with the rest of us just how often you use your phone's digital assistant, whether her/its name is Siri, Cortana, or Google Now.

Since the poll ran for just under 48 hours, the turn-up wasn't excellent, nor terrible. We have some 2,500 votes in, all split between the various groups. Here's what they say.

Users of Android constitute by far the biggest group in total (73.79%) and are therefore over-represented. Apple's platform took 14.43% of the votes, leaving Microsoft's with 11.78% of the votes. Between those three distinct platforms, Google Now is far and away the most popular digital assistant, with some 18.68% of Android users claiming that they use it daily (versus 2.09% for Siri and 6.19% for Cortana), 12.38% saying that they count on it once every two or three days (2.01% for Siri, 1.93% for Cortana), and 11.63%  on a weekly basis (2.84% for Siri, 1.97% for Cortana).

Interestingly enough, it turns out that the Windows Phone community, while least represented here, is actually liking their platform's digital assistant best – just 14.38% of all voters in their camp say that they never make use of Cortana. In comparison, that number is much higher over at Google's and Apple's tents – 42.14% and 51.9%, respectively. Of course, a sample of 2,500 votes isn't large enough to be considered representative of the entire population, especially since a large part of our audience is of the power user type, and yet it's clear that Cortana is definitely something of a favorite feature over at Windows Phone.

Chris, this maybe a unpopular suggestion, but since we are discussing Smartphone Personal Assistant here, maybe we can add up BlackBerry Assistant to the list. I think it worth the mention, since BlackBerry still consider one of the BIG four of the Mobile OS war.

I use Cortana a lot. It dictates every text messages I received. Calendar reminders which includes option to email, call or text. Weather updates. Quiet hours.

I have a windows phone and I don't use Cortana. If I had an android phone, I wouldn't use google now. If I had an iPhone, I wouldn't use Siri. I find them useless and I could just do it myself. So never.

It's one of the first features I disabled when I activated my phone (iPhone). The concept always felt awkward to me.

The poll really should've calculated percentages independent of other operating systems. I'm assuming that's what you did here. Nice work!
