Opera Mini becomes the first browser for Samsung Gear S users to download

Tizen fans, rejoice! Opera has once again honored its mission to put the Mini version of its browser on anything with a processor and screen. The Oslo, Norway-based company's latest frontier is the Samsung Gear S, the sole Tizen-based smartwatch on the market. Users of the smart timepiece are now able to enjoy Opera Mini, a browser that we fondly remember for its ability to bring an adequate online experience to obsolete feature phones.

Said prized ability is owed mostly to the browser's compression technology, which is able to shrink your standard web-page into as little as 10% of its original data size, while still retaining a comfortable look for browsing on a tiny screen. Opera Mini, which is also the first browser for Gear S users to download, seems like a natural fit for its 2-inch display.

Opera also touts the browser's finger-friendly features tailored for small-screen web browsing. The Smart Page shows social updates and latest news on just one screen, and the Speed Dial turns website shortcuts into large buttons for easy access. There's also a private browsing mode, which aims to eliminate traces of your online activity.

Samsung Gear S owners are able to download Opera Mini from the Samsung Gear Apps portal.
