OnePlus 3 units running HydrogenOS get enhanced Bluetooth audio via aptX support

OnePlus has been delivering lots of update for its OnePlus 3 and 3T smartphones, but we've mostly reported about those powered by OxygenOS. However, some units are running the Chinese version of the OxygenOS, which is called HydrogenOS.

HydrogenOS is getting updates as well, even though not as frequent as the OxygenOS. Nevertheless, the important thing is OnePlus is keeping its high-end smartphones up to date with new features and improvements meant to enhance user experience.

The latest HydrogenOS update adds support for aptX and aptX HD Bluetooth codecs. These improvements are available in the beta version of HydrogenOS, but they will soon be released to the general public.

With the addition of aptX support, OnePlus hopes that its smartphones will provide customers with enhanced audio quality when they're using Bluetooth connectivity. AptX support will be added to all smartphones and tablets running Android O.

AptX is a streaming protocol that offers better quality when streaming audio at higher bitrates. In order for a device to support the aptX protocol, it needs specific hardware, but the good news is most high-end smartphones have it by default these days.

The new HydrogenOS beta 12 has been released for the OnePlus 3, and while the Chinese ROM is usually compatible with all OnePlus devices, the beta build is available for the OnePlus 3 only.
