OnePlus 11 camera: here's everything you need to know

It has been about half an year since the OnePlus 11 launched globally, so why not go through a quick refresher before OnePlus decides on jumping to the next generation. We have three cameras that are housed in the company's trademark circular camera island, with each shooter rocking different sensor compared to the phone's predecessor.

Adding further to the camera upgrades is the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. The benefits from this new chipset come in the form of new camera features and functionality, but is that enough to make the OnePlus 11 stand out? Well, let's just say it does the job, and you probably won't be disappointed as long as you only need the cameras on your phone for some quick snapshots.

OnePlus 11 camera design

The first thing you notice about the OnePlus 11 camera (and about the phone in general) is its new design, which is now in a round, circular shape inspired by — as OnePlus puts it — a black hole. Despite that, it still takes up a huge amount of space on the back of the phone, much like with the OnePlus 10 Pro.

Whether you are a fan of this look or not is a matter of personal preference though, so let’s talk about what these snappers are actually made of.

The new camera sensors

First and foremost, let us start with the main camera, which comes with a 50MP IMX890 image sensor. It measures 1/1.56", has an aperture of ƒ/1.8, and comes with optical image stabilization (OIS). OnePlus says that with this new main camera users will be able to take brighter and sharper images, as well as record videos in low-lit and backlit environments.

Moving on to the ultra-wide snapper, the one on the OnePlus 11 comes with a 48MP 1/2" sensor with support for an autofocusing system and a field of view (FOV) of 115°. The wide-angle camera is also capable of shooting in HDR and has a secondary function as a macro camera.

Then we have the 32MP telephoto shooter on the OnePlus 11, which the company has dubbed Portrait Tele Lens. It is powered by the IMX 709 image sensor, and also has autofocus. OnePlus claims that this telephoto camera simulates the same professional look you can get with a real Hasselblad camera fitted with XCD 30mm and 65mm lenses.

On that note, as you can probably tell from the obvious logo on OnePlus 11's camera island, OnePlus is continuing its partnership with Hasselblad, and one of the main contributions the camera manufacturer has delivered is its knowledge of color science. The OnePlus 11 can shoot 10-bit imagery which makes the transition between different hues of colors more gradual, helping the image appear more natural and richer — both characteristics being what OnePlus is going for here.

The company has even go so far to add an additional “13-channel multi-spectral sensor for light-color identifying” with the OnePlus 11, which allows for wider spectral analysis of light. This way, while taking photos, the phone can identify and remove color-bias caused by surrounding light. This new hardware also enables the camera on the OnePlus 11 to identify minor differences between colors and tones when the foreground, subject, and background are of mostly the same hues, helping it accurately adjust the white balance.

Hasselblad Masters Mode

Hasselblad Masters Mode on the OnePlus 11 is basically three separate presets that were created in collaboration with famous photographers. The three presets correspond to different use-case scenarios: Serenity (by Yin Chao, for portrait imaging); Radiance (by Ben Thomas, for humanity and cultural photography); Emerald (by David Pesken, for landscape photography).

Video Capturing Mode

The OnePlus 11 utilizes its new main-camera Sony IMX890 image sensor, which comes with DOL-HDR technology. This should improve on the phone's HDR capabilities while shooting video, producing brighter video with better sharpness and contrast, and livelier colors. It should also reduce the negative effects of short/long exposures.
