Official OS upgrade for the BlackBerry Storm 9500
RIM has officially released a firmware upgrade for the BlackBerry Storm 9500. Available from the Taiwan Mobile BlackBerry site, you can download the upgrade by clicking this link. The new version is 4.7.0.167. So far, the results have been mixed with some complaining about the handset being slightly less responsive after the upgrade, and others saying that there seems to be no change at all from the prior OS build.

In the States, the BlackBerry Storm 9530 had its' last official upgrade in June, as we reported. The version released was 4.7.0.148. Since then, a leaked, unofficial version of OS 5.0.0.140 was released. Power users of the Storm are hoping it won't be too long before an official 5.0 version of the BlackBerry OS is launched for the Storm because it is thought that tabbed browsing will be one of the features available on that build. Many expect a 5.0 OS upgrade for the Storm to come around the same time that the Storm 2 will be released in October/November. The sequel to the first touchscreen 'Berry will be equipped with an OS build beginning with the number 5.
