Nokia 6.1 won't be part of the Beta Labs, to be updated to Android 9 Pie soon
HMD Global likes to thoroughly test major Android OS updates before making them available to everyone, which is why it kicked off a beta program where people can test all the new features and improvements before they're pushed to the stable channel.

It happened with the Nokia 7 Plus and Nokia 6.1 Plus, but it's not going to happen with the standard Nokia 6.1 model. HMD's Juho Sarvikas confirmed his company will skip Beta Labs on Nokia 6.1 and that the final version of Android 9 Pie will be released soon.

There are a lot more Nokia-branded smartphones waiting to receive Android 9 Pie updates, but many of them will probably have to go through all the testing process before we can talk about a stable release.

In any case, if you're rocking a Nokia 6.1, you should ready your smartphone for a major Android 9 Pie update. Hopefully, “soon” truly means soon.

Don't hold your breath on that one. LG and Samsung aren't going to be the best choice if you want consistent updates. Nokia is second only to Google and Essential, which already has Pie right now despite not being an Android One phone.

Agreed. HMD has been better than most with software updates. Google should be best with their Pixel line, as it’s their OS to begin with, so that’s no great feat there. Essential updating the ONE phone that they have (and ever will have, as they won’t be making another one) quickly isn’t a great feat either, as they only have that one phone to worry about. I’m just glad that HMD tests these updates thoroughly first, as opposed to releasing them half baked like Google is doing with its Pixel line. The 3rd generation Pixels are already having issues, and they were just released.

It would seem that the testing on the Nokia 7 Plus and the recent start to the Pie beta on the 6.1 Plus must be enough for HMD to conclude that testing on the Nokia 6.1 won’t be needed. Can’t wait for this update to hit my Nokia 6.1. HMD has really been great with updates for their Nokia branded smartphones. Keep up the great work, HMD.

Ahhh, yes. It appears that you were right about the little rabble rouser once again assuming that you and I are the same person, Meanestgenius. I should have known, really. He simply cannot fathom the idea that there are people that support you against his absurd tirade towards smartphone manufacturers whose products you choose to use. He really hasn’t a clue of how buffoonish he actually looks rummaging through x-amount of articles to launch his latest assaults on inanimate objects and those that partake in the enjoyment of using their products. You have your work cut out for you with that one, Meanestgenius. But you do hold many a victory over him, as he has been forced to his latest out of many alter-ego in his ongoing quest to look absurd on a website about technological products.
