Raising more than $978,000 for New York City in a 24 hour stretch, New York's finest managed to ticket 7,529 drivers for using a cellphone while in the midst of operating a vehicle. The ticket carries a $130 fine. This is the third day this year that the NYPD have used a one day crackdown to publicize the dangers of driving while talking on a mobile handset. The other two times were in May and August. On an average day in 2008, N.Y. cops gave out 536 tickets for the same offense.
