Motorola TRIUMPH release date set for July 19

Motorola TRIUMPH release date set for July 19
Making good on its promise, Virgin Mobile is planning to launch the Motorola TRIUMPH starting on July 19th – thus bringing a respectable and high-end Android smartphone to the prepaid carrier.

Considering that it’s gracing Virgin Mobile’s prepaid lineup, it’s especially going to be awesome for customers since they’re not necessarily exposed to that many smartphones boasting some eye-catching specs. In fact, it features a 4.1” WVGA touchscreen, 5-megapixel camera, VGA front-facing camera, and runs a stock Android 2.2 Froyo experience.  All in all, it should be a nice addition to their lineup – and even more when it’s combined with their competitive plans.

Still, the only thing left to know about the handset is its pricing, but then again, we’d imagine it to be more than affordable for anyone seeing that it’s a prepaid device.

A great phone from Virgin Mobile. Install Google Voice calling application and you have an unlimited everything device on a good network for $25 a Even if you don't want to use google voice, $40 a month gets you 1500 minutes an unlimited everything...still awesome.

I'm keeping a eye out for this baby. It should be a pretty good phone as long as it does not cost $300.

If I was betting person, I believe the over/under line would be $350. The Optimus V came in at $150 and then went up to $200. I had a chance to get the Opt. V at Target when it had a special for $130 AND I get a $20 Target gift card but that sale was limited to stock on hand.

whattarget i always here somebody said they got their phone at target every target i go to dont sell sprint phones and its such a rip because i get a total 20% discount. and buying full price phones would become that much cheaper.

"we’d imagine it to be more than affordable for anyone seeing that it’s a prepaid device." Such an idiotic statement. The piece of garbage known as the Samsung Intercept was $249.99 so WHY ON EARTH would a way higher end phone be so called "more than affordable", Pre-paid phones are usually NEVER 'affordable, because they are always near the MSRP. I would suggest ,maybe getting a clue before posting things. THANKS!

Darbe: when you exam cellphone affordability, you need to do an apples to apples comparison. For example, that means looking at the cost of the phone PLUS the monthly payments. Prepaid makes sense for many people because their monthly payments are a fraction of a 2-year contract, and that savings over time justifies the higher initial phone costs.

7. DARBE unregistered

And that is WHY they are always near the MSRP, Because it's no contract AND its cheaper monthly, which was my point. Will you be saving LOADS? Yes! But spending $100s on that phone UP-FRONT is not what is 'affordable', the monthly cheap plans and no contract is, which DOES make-up for the expensive price, affordable. Not the phone. Because that BIG wallet clearing price IS the sacrifice for those things to be cheap.

Darbe: You are contradicting yourself. In finance, we look at the Net Present Value of the Prepaid versus a subsidized phone on a 2-year contract. The one with the highest NPV wins. It's that simply. Just tell me the NPV for your case and I will tell you which deal is MORE AFFORDABLE. In case you missed it, the NPV accounts for the higher initial payment for prepaid phones.

VM is making a lot of money for their phones or devices. They know not many people really use these smartphones up to 2 years. so they are selling newer or better features phones every few monthes. I bet many of the new LG Optimus V users are itchie to buy this Motorola Triumph to replace their a few monthes old phones. $25 per month sounds cheap, but when adding the phone cost, they are not really cheap, plus you getting 3G only.

3G isn't the fastest service, but it is plenty good for many users such as email, surfing web pages, etc. The one thing I don't like about this phone is the lack of "N" standard for Wifi.

For those of us who absolutely fell in love with the Huawei Ascend that is still offered by Cricket, we have been waiting for what seems like forever for a decent phone to take its place. Some of us left Cricket for Virgin and opted (no pun intended) for the Optimus V. Still prepaid service with much better customer service. We patiently waited for Huawei to come out with the Ascend 2 as they promised and yet there is still no word from Huawei. One has to wonder if the shabby treatment by the U.S. Gov't has made them less willing to sell their fabulous phones at such a low price for the American consumer. Now at last there is a decent phone coming to prepaid carriers. The Motorola Triumph seems to be the answer everyone has been waiting for. Watch for Cricket users to switch to Virgin Mobile. This phone will most definitely take the place of the Ascend, which became the techies choice for modding. And in addition to comes with a 5 mp camera with a flash and a front facing video capture. The sleek design reminds me a lot of the Ideos X6, made again by Huawei, but never having made it to the mainland. For those interested in the Triumph, I suggest getting it early when it comes out as it will disappear from the shelves and the online Virgin store fast.

I think the $300 price is fair. People complain it is too high. If it is too high there are other options for you to explore instead of wasting time complaining. Match your phone to your budget. If you cant afford $300 then this isn't the device for you.

I just hope it's not too big. The LG opt v is a great size for my comfort and pocket. Too much bigger, and I may as well just start carrying around a tablet. I really want a super duper android phone with excel camera and flash with 3.5" screen. something pocketable like that works for me. all the new phones are just getting too too big.

I went to Best Buy today and they didn't know anything about the pre-order of this phone. I asked them to go look into their site. After the clerk went into it, he told me that for some reason he couldn't complete any pre-orders on this and that they would have to look into it because they had never done a pre-order on a pre-paid phone before . After leaving the store, I looked into their store Buyers Guide and saw that the Triumph is listed as "Coming Soon" exclusive to Best Buy. Don't know whats up but I got a runaround on this.
