Motorola DROID pictured with Android 2.2 upgrade
With pictures circulating of the Motorola DROID being powered by the Android 2.2 OS, one could come to the conclusion that the Froyo upgrade is right around the corner. Despite the better specs found in the HTC Droid Incredible, Verizon has continued to promote the DROID (currently the center of a BOGO promotion) and the device has continued to sell well. Part of the reason is the short supply the carrier has of the Droid Incredible. The other reason has to do with the handset's ability to quickly receive the next firmware build. Unlike the Incredible, which has the Sense UI on top of Google's open source OS, the DROID doesn't have to wait for HTC to upgrade Sense before it can run Froyo and future upgrades. And while pictures can always be "fixed", the idea that Motorola's device is probably next in line to grab what is seen as a strong effort from Google might have people looking at the Motorola model running Android 2.2 instead of the Droid Incredible with the 1GHz Snapdragon processor.
