Moto X Play: all the new features of the enduring midranger

Moto X Play: all the new features of the enduring midranger
Motorola took the stage and announced the expected Moto G 2015 and Moto X Style handsets, but the real hostage-taker is the Moto X Play - a midranger that nobody saw coming, or, rather, thought it as a version of the Moto X. Granted, there were rumors that Motorola will announce a phone with 3600 mAh battery, but it was assumed at the time that this will be the Moto X 2015.

Thankfully, the Moto x Play is a totally different handset that has the specs to match last year's flagships, yet will be sold for about $300. With a 5.5" 1080p display, 64-bit Snapdragon chipset, 20 MP camera, and a 3600 mAh battery, there's hardly anything more you'd desire from a midranger, so let's take a look at what's new in Motorola's newly-minted middle-of-the-road "Play" line. Which one piques your fancy most in the Moto X Play?

The X Play retains the usable size of the X, unlike the X Stylus/Pure. Too bad it won't be offered stateside...

It will be available in Canada. So you can do some cross boarder shopping. ;-)

But the listed bands wouldn't work either in Canada or in the US. Probably another version for N. America supporting the bands in region 2 will be released soon. Thanks for the heads up.

This phone is a year too late. OnePlus One was better value a year ago and is even better now, plus the you don't need an invite to buy one anymore. What's the point of this thing?

It's got a larger battery, a much more compact form factor, and expandable storage. Plenty of reason right there.

The OnePlus One is faster, 3GB of RAM, 64GB of internal storage and it's cheaper. I'd still take the OnePlus One, BS on the compact form factor, it's a fat phone.

moto x play is more compact and more comfortable to palm hand with a screen to -body ratio of 75% while one plus one is just 71% its not fat as you may think you would feel since it is a curved shape like lg g3

It's 5.5 mm shorter and 2.2 mm thinner. That's a more compact form factor. The OnePlus One may be cheaper in some places, but not everywhere (in Canada, it would be the more expensive option, assuming that the Play goes for $400 CDN as rumoured). YMMV, but it's nowhere near cut and dry.

one plus one = weaker battery life compare to Moto x play one plus one =ugly one plus one= made by a not popular brand not even known to many places around the World vs MOTOROLA one plus one is bigger in overall size compare to moto x play

Battery is a little weaker, not a huge difference really, Google Play services will drain them both nicely. You're arguing aesthetics and brand and I'm talking about performance. Do you want to phone that looks good or a phone with better performance? Also consider Snapdragon 615 may have an overheating issue which could mean more aggressive throttling. http://mobile.softpedia.com/blog/Xiaomi-Mi4i-Overheating-Issues-Fixed-via-Software-Update-482038.shtml Crazy to think the OnePlus One was released over a year ago and is now highly competitive with NEW mid range devices. :D

It doesn't have bugs, it has fast charging, big ass battery, stock android, and you can buy it from a store and if there are any issue you can return it to said store, rather than shipping it back to China. Plus it'll also be easier to replace a cracked Motorola screen than a Oneplus screen.

This big battery phone can not purchased in US. The reason that Moto does not sell big battery phones in US other than Verizon is probably that the notorious agreement between Motorola and Verizon: Motorola makes Droid series exclusive to Verizon with big battery, and Motorola agrees not to sell the big battery non-Verizon phones in the US. With this agreement, anyone wants a Motorola big battery phone must buy it from Verizon. I am just wondering when this agreement will get expired.
