More leaked images of Microsoft's Project Pink Phones - targets April 20 release
There has been more light surrounding Microsoft's Project Pink phones today as Engadget received images of the two handsets in question – the Turtle and Pure. Aside from the fuzzy looking shots of the handsets, their reliable source has stated that the Sharp-made devices are going to launch exclusively with Verizon Wireless with a potential to be released by April 20. From all the news we've been hearing about Project Pink, the same source goes on to say that they will indeed be targeting the teens and twentysomethings demographics – which of course makes sense seeing that these follow the same path that the Sidekick handsets made over on T-Mobile. The one area that's still a bit fuzzy is the platform that's powering these two handsets – some still speculate it to be some kind of glorified feature phone that plays close to what's offered on the Windows Phone 7 Series platform. Whichever way it does go, Microsoft has its hands full at the moment and will really need to impress people out of the gates with these Project Pink phones. Finally, our friends over the big pond will eventually see the light of these two phones as it's being rumored that GSM variants will make its way to Vodafone.

thats exactly what I thought. IS microsoft retarded? Everything they come up with now in days is garbage! After XP everything starting sucking. I want to run that company, I would make my own brand phones like apple. The same thing with computers. I believe that when a computer customizes its products to work in sync with each other products than its much better!

THESE ARE MEANT FOR KIDS! These devices are not geared or intended to be used by young adults and older... it is geared for the 10-16 year-old market.

microsoft is already loosing to adroid and apple markets as well as devices, and this is windows first brand device so far i know of, which looks like trash!

I want to design the Microsoft branded phone. I would make it a 4.0 in touch screen with the thinnest keyboard ever made. It would be bigger than the droid in screen but a lot thinner. I would make the OS very simple and easy to use. I had 6.1 windows mobile and it was so hard to even deal with that phone. The fucker was complicated!

Actually limiting the thickness of the device will limit how good the keyboard is.

I heard the other day when I was readin a review for call of duty that these people triedthe game on two systems and xp acually ended up working better than vista. and yeah, windows mobile is a horrible os and they want this phone to fail with a horrendous look from hell. This phone is disgusting. It makes me question whose stupid ideas Microsoft actually takes out there at headquarters. This isnt gonna last.

These phones will not run WinMo... they are feature phones, geared toward 10-16 year-olds... think of it as Microsoft's sidekick. Similar to HTC installing sense UI and Samsung installing TouchWIZ on feature phones, these will have elements of WP7s, but will not be running the OS. Hopefully they will be just as popular as the sidekick series, if not more so, as they should be available on every carrier in the EU and US. Microsoft is finally marketing a younger generation, just like apple did with the iPod, just like Molboro and Camel cigarettes, "get'em while they're young" and they will be a customer for life. This could be a good move to re-establish the Microsoft name for mobile devices again and build a larger marketbase. If you grow up with a microsoft phone that meets your needs as a kid, when you get older and head to college and the professional world, you will gravitate to adapt the better more complex version of WP7s. BRILLIANT!
