Microsoft Lumia 535 now available in the US for $169
While it hasn’t been officially introduced in the US, Microsoft’s Lumia 535 can be bought by US customers thanks to Expansys, which currently sells the smartphone for $169.99. That’s not a high price, but it’s more than what folks in India have to pay for the device: $149.

Expansys USA is offering the dual SIM variant of the Lumia 535 only in white, orange and green - so for now you can’t buy the black and blue versions.

Announced earlier this month as Microsoft’s first own-branded Windows Phone handset, the Lumia 535 is bigger and better than its predecessor (Nokia Lumia 530). The new smartphone runs Windows Phone 8.1 with the latest Lumia Denim update, obviously including all the software features that you’d expect from a Microsoft handset (Cortana, Office, Skype, and so on). It’s also got a 5-inch display with 540 x 960 pixels, two 5 MP cameras, a quad-core Snapdragon 200 processor, 1 GB of RAM, and a 1905 mAh battery.

Do you plan to get the Microsoft Lumia 535? Or do you think there are better options in this price range out there?

This is a pretty great phone for the price. I don't know why they named it 535, because it could have been a Lumia 7xx with those specs. Except the processor. They could at least made it a snapdragon 400

Nokia's/MS naming conventions never made any sense. The 8xx to 9xx series initially meant adding LTE to their older flagship phone. Watch it and MS will call the 1020 successor the 1135. It's a confusing, arbitrary naming scheme that needs to die.

You are right bro. snapdragon 400 will be a dealbreaker at this price. :D

How so ? CPU is the same GPU is only slightly inferior (400Mhz vs 450Mhz on the S400) The main difference is on the extras : - no 4G/LTE support - cameras up to 8MP (vs up to 13.5MP on the S400) - screen up to 720p screen (vs up to 1080p on the S400) - 720p recording (vs 1080P on the S400) with makes no difference for the 535

No, it isn't a grat phone for that price at all. There are much better options… at the same price you can get phones with a better processsor (the snap 400) and an HD screen with beautiful colors instead of this low-definition low-contrast screen.

moto G 2014 slaughters this in every way, probably except battery.

and front camera. But yeah, for most people here the front camera means nothing. Personally I love good front cameras, so that front camera makes the Snapdragon 200 forgivable at $150. But now that it's priced just about the same with the Moto G 2014, I side toward the Moto G. I've seen some selfies taken with the 2014 Moto G and they look pretty nice anyway, only without wide angle. (There is also the LG Optimus L90 at only $100 in the US which performs so hella great with the Snapdragon 400) But then we gotta remember that some people just prefer WP, and they don't game at all. So maybe this Lumia 535 is still worth it at $170.

Explain all the ways in which it slaughters it. No offense but with every smartphone now going flat and many like all of HTC Android smartphones homescreens looking WP ill say the trendsetter is better. Both are great devices for consumers.

This is what the G has over the 535. Snapdragon 400 vs 200. 8MP camera vs 5MP Much larger app marketplace Stereo speakers vs Mono Water Resistant design 720p Screen vs 540p screen. This is what the 535 has over the G. 5MP front camera Very smooth, Clean OS

The Lumia 535 isn't a Moto G competitor, is a Moto E competitor.

WinOS is lighter on a hardware, therefore it doesnt need spec as high as Android-based smartphones. I really like this 535, I can already see myself getting it instead Alcatel Idol 2 I have it now.

Microsoft is putting all the Lumia 635s on sale for $39 plus tax which is less than $43. I know because I bought my mom one. Which is a great deal for that price but why would they sell that for so low then rush this in. I mean 635 is better than this 535 and it's way cheaper. I guess Microsoft just wants to get rid of any Lumias with the Nokia logo on it and rush their branded name Lumias in instead.

I think Microsoft and Windows smart phones will survive. Microsoft is not a dead Company it's strength is in tt's "Enterprise -Business" software sales which is still great. MS Mobile devices are a sideshow. Microsoft finally got it's Tablet design right with the "Surface Pro 3" which are selling very well despite their high cost. What microsoft needs to do now is make an Atom based Budget "Surface Pro" style case designed Tablet selling for under 450 USA dollars with their surface pro type cover and pen. this Tablet would not be a speed queen but it would run MS Office, current Microsoft store apps and the coming new MS "Universal apps with out a hitch if a person does not do a lot of multitasking.

Folk I think Microsoft at a CES 2015 will introduce "MS Office for Microsoft Windows touch screen Tablet/ Computers.and a 7.9 inch ARMS CPU powered MS Lumia 2530 to replace the Nokia Lumia 2520 and an ARMS CPU powered Surface 3. both wont run Standard x86 Desktop/Server programs but will run the New microsoft Universal apps which will make them still worth buying. I wish Microsoft would be very smart and upgrade the surface 2 to run an atom CPU so it could run standard X86 Windows desktop Programs and just have the 7.9 inch Lumia 2530 which was the "Surface Mini" to run windows smart phone apps and the New Microsoft Universal Apps. This would make sense because running full windows desktop apps on a screen smaller than 10.1 inches is Problem as far as seeing the Desktop programs with your eyes. eye strain is not cool. you can only do viewing and light editing of desktop software on a tablet under 9 inches
