Make the Galaxy S4's home button react faster by disabling the S Voice shortcut

Make the Galaxy S4's home button react faster by disabling the S Voice shortcut
Do you think the Galaxy S4 could react a bit faster when you press the home button? Sure, the smartphone is very fast just the way it is, but guess what - it could do this particular action even faster - the only thing you need to do is to deactivate the S Voice home button shortcut.

By default, S Voice can be launched by double-pressing the home button. This means that when you press the button once, it waits for a few moments to see if a second press is coming. If it isn't, it decides that you just want to go to your home screen and sends you there. This can be the cause for a small delay, which can be reduced by simply disabling the S Voice shortcut.

In order to do so, you need to launch S Voice, then go to settings and uncheck "Open via the home key." Once this is done, you'll be enjoying a faster home button response on devices that have S Voice (including the Galaxy S4, S III and Note II), but you'll also have to launch S Voice using a screen icon. No big deal, if you ask us.

Samsung needs to update the version of s voice. It usually doesn't understand what I'm asking(saying) and it gives out a different statement and answer

Galaxy S4 Users Say Samsung Forgot to Tout ‘S Lag’ – Guess that Octa-Core Isn’t So Great Afterall? It’s really starting to look like Samsung rushed the Galaxy S4 to retailers this year. Just about a week or two after the Galaxy S4 was announced, Samsung announced that the Exynos 5 Octa chip supports LTE. Which was the big reason why the US and other LTE markets were getting a Snapdragon 600 processor. Then once it got close to launch, the Galaxy S4 began to be backordered. In fact Sprint and T-Mobile are still sold out. Now we’re seeing complaints that the Exynos 5 Octa has been lagging while doing nothing. Which is pretty sad for a 8-core processor, am I right? Twitter user @ramontrotman, says “Samsung forgot to market it’s most prominent feature, S Lag. The feature that makes your 8 core 2 week old phone lag while doing nothing.” The user is playing off of Samsung’s motto of “S all the things”. This is actually quite surprising, since the Exynos processor has been rather zippy in most reviews and demos. Additionally, the Exynos 5 octa has beaten rivals in benchmarks, rather annihilated them. We’ve heard from Samsung’s head, JK Shin that “it doesn’t matter what processor your Galaxy S4 is running”, well it looks like it does Mr. Shin. I haven’t used either Galaxy S4 yet, so I can’t confirm whether it does actually lag or not. We’re seeing reports that the ‘S Lag’ is only on the Galaxy S4 Exynos 5 Octa edition, so it looks like those of us in the US, UK, and other countries lucked out getting the Snapdragon 600. Where it appears Samsungs “most prominent” feature is now apparent. Which is actually a good thing this time around. For those of you that have picked up the Galaxy S4, have you noticed any lag? Let us know in the comments below, also specify which variant you have so we can tell if it’s just the Exynos 5 Octa or the Snapdragon 600 variant as well. i work in at&t store and i saw many returns of the s4 this week i can't count how many return's people all compelling of many problems from Samsung my manager was laughing is butt off. this is what the customers who returned the s4 comments were the Samsung s4 is the leggiest phone you can find in the market now, defective screen pink blur, over heating, the battery not that good and you can't see anything in the sun, the internal memory is small and and use sd cards make more leggy because sd cards are slow. when a company make alot of money they stop caring and this is Samsung.

The lag only on octa-core is a lie. There's many active threads on at&t xda talking about the lag and that's a snap dragon 600.

I have the UK version of the phone with the quad core 1.9 CPU. My iPad mini runs 2 times smother than my s4. Is the first time that i am leaving apple for another company and the disappointment is huge. The s4 lags, overheats and the battery is Mediocre ..... How can a company sell such a low quality product for such a high price?

According to my research online many people seems to face those issues. I think we can make it official since, the phone dog, pocketnow and the verge have mentioned the lag on the s4 when they reviewed the device. And is the second unit I have....because I returned the first and still the same....

aside from the s voice you might want to go to settings>developer options...there are 3 animation settings there set them to 0x the 3 of them...and you got the snappiest device of all.

Also if you are rooted you can geta kernel app and change some settings. This will make it snappier also

Kernel app? Kernels aren't apps. Just a little FYI. What I'm more curious about and will probably try to find today is whether or not CM.1 running on the S4 is having the same issues as its touchwiz installed counterparts. Anyone have any feedback on that?

My FYI is correct. Those are performance control apps for custom/modified kernels i.e. Faux123's kernel. You need to install custom kernels with OC built to do any OC. These allow customization with user preferred settings like system tuner or set CPU. My FYI is very correct as a kernel is NOT an APP. Performance and kernel control apps on the other hand is something completely different.
