Liveblog: HTC One M9 announcement

The time has come, ladies and gentlemen, to witness the official announcement of HTC's next flagship, a wildly-expected smartphone that will try to further build on the success of 2014's One (M8) and, hopefully, address the issues that marred the image of the soon-to-be-ex flagship.

If you've not kept your head under a rock, you've certainly stumbled upon one of the numerous leaks and rumors about the HTC One M9 and its expected beefed-up variation.

On the other hand, if you're a fan of HTC's, you're probably more than curious to find out whether the numerous One M9 leaks will actually hold water or end up being a giant ruse devised by the phone maker, which will try to woo us with something that nobody expected.

We are at HTC' pre-MWC event and will be live-blogging the official announcement of the phone in real-time, so make sure to stick around. Ready? Okay, let's get going!

EVENT START TIME: 7 AM PT | 8 AM MT | 9 AM CT10 AM ET  | 3 PM GMT | 4 PM CET

If you don't have time: HTC One M9: 5-inch (1080p), Snapdragon 810-soc, 3GB RAM, 4MP UltraPixel (front), 20.7MP Toshiba (back), similar design as One M8, Android 5.0 Lollipop, HTC Sense 7 with location-based features and Sense themes.

They are both fantastic.

I'll be rooting for M9. Design is still miles ahead of S6 and their Sense UI is the best in the android world.

I would love if either one of Sammy or HTC would make its new device immediately available. The worst thing is having to wait several weeks after the presentation to be able to get one...

"08:12 - Picking up a question from our commenters: which phone do you think will have the thunder today: the One M9 or the Galaxy S6?" Personally I'm thinking that the Samsung Galaxy S6/S6 Edge will be more talked about because of the new design, build, specs, and software, but also due to the lack of the/an micro SD expansion, removable back cover, increased battery size, and water-resistant feature. It's a lot of change from Samsung compared to HTC imo. "08:20 - Okay, another question about you, guys, as we wait for the event to start: what is it that you like most about the HTC One series?" If I had to pick one, it'd probably be their front facing stereo boom sound technology. It is just incredible. To hear that it will be improved on this flagship is really exciting.

I had the M7, and I never understood the utility of the BoomSound speakers. Heck, I'm not even sure I understand the utility of stereo speakers on a phone. I think it just encourages people to be rude and force their music on others. I'm not trying to troll you, but do you invite people over to your house for social functions and use your phone for the music? I just use BT to connect to my home audio system, which is why I ask.

You make a good point and I can see what you mean when you say that it can encourage people to force their music on others. I think the boom sound speakers would prove to be more useful outdoors away from our home sound system. If not only for music, but also the videos we capture on the phone through the camera or watching movies on the road, the boom sound speakers would give a richer experience in consuming media than other smartphones on the market. Just a nice technology included inside an already great phone I thought.

I can understand that. I guess I never used mine in that kind of environment enough.

wow dumbest quote on pa boomsound is for any video not mirror cast and music on the phone when working and you dont have a bt sound system around you. palm to face people here are just *&^*$%^%$^%$ not every video on my phone needs to be put over a home sound system.

Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge will be a way better than M9. Have you seen those phones on YouTube? I'm in shock that Samsung could have created such a beautiful phone.

What won me over to the HTC one series was the design. When I purchased the M8, I was originally looking at the Note 3 at that time. But after holding it in my hands I instantly fell in love with the phone. I felt they could have done better with the rear cam, maybe 8 UP instead of 4 UP but the quality and the beautiful Sense UI was enough to sell me. I am still using the M8 today with very few problems.

Other than he low res 4UP camera, I am more than happy with the phone for past one year :)
