Leaked internal Walmart memo allegedly hints at price hike for Apple iPhone 6s (UPDATE: Walmart made a typo)

Leaked internal Walmart memo allegedly hints at price hike for Apple iPhone 6s (UPDATE: Walmart made a typo)
A leaked internal Walmart memo, shared with us by a loyal PhoneArena reader, allegedly reveals how Walmart is going to be pricing certain versions of the Apple iPhone once the next iteration of the smartphone is launched. According to the memo, the Verizon branded 16GB Apple iPhone 6s will be priced at $218 on contract. The 64GB model will be offered at a price of $318 with a signed two-year contract from Verizon.

The release of the next-gen iPhones will change the pricing for older models, according to the memo. The 16GB Apple iPhone 6 will be reduced to $118 with a signed two-year Verizon contract, and the 64GB model will be reduced to $218. The memo calls for the 16GB Apple iPhone 5s to be priced at just $18 with a signed Verizon contract. All color options are covered by the memo.

We suggest that you open the pantry and take this with a grain of salt. It does seem to be way too early to be discussing the pricing for the iPhone 6s, although truthfully we could be just 8 weeks away from seeing the next generation iPhone models officially introduced by Apple.

Thanks for the tip!

UPDATE: We've heard from Walmart and the discount retailer admits that they sent the memo. However, the person who wrote it made a typo and tapped out Apple iPhone 6s when he meant to type Apple iPhone 6 Plus. So it appears that Walmart will be running a sale on the Verizon branded 5.5-inch iPhone 6 Plus. The 16GB model will be priced at $218 and the 64GB variant will cost you $318. Both prices require your signature on a two-year contract.

I know it's been said, but 16GB base is plain absurd in 2015. 32 would be understandable. Come on Apple...

16gb is there, so that everyone will buy 64gb model.

I agree. Clearly it's there just to push people to pay $100 more, but I think in the long run this may hurt Apple due to the frustration people feel when their 16GB fills up so fast. Time will tell!

You are giving their fanbase too much credit. See how they're really SQUEEZING every last bit out of them with their $20 price hike. They know their market, they know how to play them like the bongos they are.

Can't believe they still make the 16 gigs model...

Because people keep buying them. Also businesses usually buy the 16Gb model for employees, because we do. We have 25 employees and half of them get an office phone if they are project managers. But its getting to a point that I won;t be buying them anymore because the cost is getting higher than I want to pay.

I'm sorry but Apple and business are like fire and ice BlackBerry ave Android and even WP are a lot better since the business Is also about the price. I can't think of even one advantage of Apple products in business well Microsoft got free office BB have good security and Android well it can have many things but Apple...!

16GB is no longer the standard. This is 2015. 32gb should be the least offered storage.

You are a Apple fanboy and yet you don't think like Apple. The question to ask is how will it benefit Apple if they were to release a cheaper 32GB model??

Hmmmm interesting question. As a fanboy, I would say an increase in sales by 5% of the total number of iPhone 6 units. Wonder what happened last year. Apple suddenly turned dumb.

Is that 218 a price increase? I know that in Canada they will have another one, they do every year. $859 for the Iphone 6 16 gb unlocked or something ludicrous like that. lol I don't know who to sigh at more, Apple or their sheep....

Canadian iphone 6 pricing : 350$ for 16 gb on 2 year or 840$ full price. its 199$ in the us right? So 218$ mean its will be near 400$ for a 16 gb phone on contract... Any logic in this?

$350 is what the 64gb model is I believe.

Both. Its the sheep fault because they keep buying it, and Apple's because they keep making it that way.

Well, they expect the Apple fans to get more 64 GB model this year as opposed to last year, so I can see the increase in their profit this year too, its called a tactic named: gold-digger. :D happy paying extra $100 Apple fans, I'm happy for you. :D

Great! I will buy it as soon as 7 comes out, iOS9 gets jailbreak and 6S gets price drop. I always think that buying phones on launch is just plain stupid and has no advantages except "Look I've got new iPhone!" look on your face

If you're on a 2 yr contract cycle you want to get it when it's released otherwise you may have to wait if it sells out. Prob less so now that they are making so many.

I highly doubt Apple trusts the Wal-Mart workers with this sensitive of info. And why inform these employees 70 days (from today) before the phone comes out? They need to wait maybe a week or two before the phone is released

That's not Apple prices, it's Walmart prices. And who says they informed employees? It's a leaked document, the store level sales folk probably never saw it.
