LG reconfirms plans to release a new high-end smartphone in the second half of 2015
Not long after launching the G4 (which has yet to be released in some markets, including the US), LG is now readying another high-end handset.

According to Focus Taiwan, an LG official confirmed that the new smartphone should arrive sometime in the second half of the year. It's not the first time we're hearing about this. Back in March, LG CEO Cho Jun-ho was quoted as saying that the company planned to "release a product that stands above the G series." We assumed that the upcoming device could be a successor to the LG G Pro 2 (pictured below), which would compete with Samsung's Galaxy Notes. However, Focus Taiwan mentions that the hardware specs of the new high-end smartphone haven't been finalized, so anything could happen in the end.

LG already introduced a Galaxy Note-like handset this year: the G Stylo / G4 Stylus. But this is a mid-range device that can't stand next to Samsung's Note 4 (or the upcoming Note 5).

Do you think that LG is really readying a Galaxy Note competitor? Or maybe its upcoming high-end smartphone will attract different types of users?

I wish they'd do a Nexus 5/LG G2 refresh. That or a decent G4 compact instead of a watered down G4 mini.

G5! Come on! get a better CPU, refine the LCD, calibrate the colors, and keep the replaceable battery.

Hmm I loved the Optimus G, Nexus 4, and Nexus 5 so I am hoping that LG gets back on track with this new series. I guess this means that LG won't be doing a Nexus 5 2015 though since they have another flagship on the table. A Huawei P8 with stock Android is pretty hard for LG to beat anyways so LG is probably better off letting them have it

Except the P8 doesn't come with stock Android.

Cool... LG, don't screw up and add metal to your phones for crying out loud.

Who cares about "metal" and "pretty" if the aesthetics make the phones so fragile, you have to hide them in a protective case? Just give me a rugged stock phone that will be durable without a case. I have nothing on my S4 but a Zagg invisishield screen protector film and it's never broken, after hundred of drops.

Or how about you just don't drop your phone.

What are you talking about? Other than the removable battery and SD, the G4 is a fail.

Between the g-flex series, the g series, the g pros...it's getting Samsung-complicated in the LG lineup. Personally found the G4 design (mainly the shape of the front) very uninspiring, a step backward almost. Hoping the North American Xperia Z4 or related variant gets announced soon. Between SD 810 overheating, blah camera on HTC One M9, Samsung dropping SD cards, and LG G4's lackluster design, it's been a disappointing run for the flagship crop of 2015. Galaxy S6 Edge is pretty but I really want SD card this time around!

Incoming 6 month refresh cycle? Anyway, given that the SD810 is buggered for smartphones, we might see better SoCs before 2016 from the likes of Samsung, LG, Sony etc.

Might go with metal and glass back. That'd be original! Oh wait... All jokes aside, I'm sort of glad that they have a backup plan in case G4 underdelivers. I hope they push through with the Odin chipset they were making, or at least were trying to.

On my country, Indonesia, it costs $654, it's 3000mAh version, with dual sim lte (which usually costs $15 more), with free 64gb class10 premium microSD (worth $40), leather plastic case (cost $38 and $15 each), vr plasticboard (worth $20, available later), quadbeat 3 headphone (worth $15), additional 2900mAh battery external charger (worth $35, can charge 100% in an hour), free 2years google drive 100gb, usb OTG cable (worth $3), line (chat app) doll (they sell phone with free really big doll, worth $5), new curved gorilla glass 4 (yeah, not 3, available later) replacement for a year including user damage, and $153 cashback for those who preorder this month. Don't forget calibrated screen profile of DCI standard, which is worth more than $6000 While galaxy s6 costs more than $770, single sim, no headset, no case, no free glass replacement, no microsoft cloud memory, no VR, no online service (music, book, movie). Is it fair to compare them side by side? :D it's cheaper than note4 in fact

I would like 14 nm chip with powerful graphic chip, min 3 GB DDR5, larger camera pixel size for night shots, UFS 2.0, at least 3800 mah battery, better voice recording, better ois, stereo speakers, useful finger print sensor. Are you reading this, LG? If you build it, we will buy. I'd pay 800e for that phone.
