Images of upcoming Moto Mods leak; Amazon Alexa speaker and Polaroid Insta-share printer surface

Back in February, during MWC 2017 in Barcelona, Motorola announced several new Moto Mods for the Moto Z and Moto Z2 series. Among the modular accessories introduced were the Amazon Alexa speaker and the Polaroid Insta-Share printer. Today, tipster extraordinaire Evan Blass sent out a tweet that gives us a look-see at both new MotoMods. The Alexa speaker converts your Moto Z(2) into a handheld Echo smart speaker thanks to the presence of virtual assistant Alexa. The latter will control your smart home, give you the latest news and weather, allow you to shop by voice through Amazon, and much more.

As you might have surmised from its name, the Polaroid Insta-share printer will quickly print out a hard copy of a photograph that you've taken with your Moto Z(2). The image of the accessory reveals the slot where the printed photograph will exit from, and a cut out for the phone's rear-facing camera. And for a bit of nostalgia, the Polaroid rainbow logo can be found underneath the cut out.

Both Moto Mods are easily attached and detached thanks to the 16 magnetic pins found on the rear of all Moto Z and Moto Z2 phones. At this point, we still haven't a clue as to when these two will be launched, and how much they will cost once that takes place. However, with the dissemination of these images, we'd guess that it won't be too long before the Amazon Alexa speaker and the Polaroid Insta-Share printer are available.

That Polaroid mod sounds pretty cool.....would be awesome if the printed photos looked like actual Polaroids.

After that song came out Polaroid made a public announcement that you in fact do not need to shake anything. It will work just fine despite what Andre-3000 says.

The biggest problem with these will likely be pricing. In order to be worth it the Alexa would need to cost less than an echo dot. and the polaroid will need to be around $100-$150 and they'll need to use the zink film which is about $.50 per pic vs the PIF 300 film which is $1.50 per print. But they'll likely price Alexa at $80-100, and the printer at $200 which will miss mass market cause people will realize that needing the phone that will be gone in 2-3 years AND paying more isn't worth it. Moto mods. Great idea. Horrible execution. -Typed while sitting next to my Moto Z.

I guess the photo printer has already been introduced in Indiegogo from a team called Team One Technology last February. I'm not sure if there is any copyright for that because the Motorola contest was "Ideas and prototypes contest"

The pins on the back of the z phones aren't magnetic.

That was my first thought when reading this. The pins are for communication between phone and mod. The magnets are elsewhere (and hidden).

The Polaroid mod would be awesome if the camera on the Moto Z series devices wasn't absolutely horrible.
