How to prevent Facebook from opening external links with its built-in browser (Android tutorial)
By now, most of Facebook's mobile-only devotees that sail under Android's flags should have been "graced" with the ability to make use of its built-in browser, which allows them to open external links inside the app itself. If you don't have this option, it will probably arrive eventually. As a whole, the idea is not necessarily a bad one, but its realization is not something extraordinary. Just the opposite, in fact - the on-board solution can't stand up to your regular browser of choice performance- or feature-wise, as it lacks a whole array of essential and fundamental browser functionalities. All in all, it's useful as a preview tool, but can't be regarded as a substitute to your default browser.

Thus, users whose Facebook apps have updated over the past month or so might have been quite surprised when they've tapped on an external link and instead of their beloved and trustworthy Chrome or Mozilla Firefox browser, the Facebook app had decided to open the page with its rather bland built-in browser. There's an easy way to get rid of this one, but some not so tech-savvy devotees of the social network might have had a hard time finding a solution.

We wouldn't have discussed this feature if Facebook had not decided to enable it by default. Fortunately, this didn't cause enough negative backlash as the social network's decision to force Messenger on its mobile users. We'll show you the ropes on how to say goodbye to the built-in browser of Facebook for Android.

Put a ”Android” refference so iOS users don't waste time with opening the article.

Slight problem: I don't have the "Always Open Links With External Browser" in my copy of Facebook.

I don't have the "Always Open Links..." option, but do have the latest app version. However, mine does open in my default browser (Chrome).

I'm glad I didn't update my Facebook app. For the past year, every update seemed to make me like it less as it makes it more cumbersome for me to use. It used to let me default to the most recent feed. Now I always have to manually select the most recent feed. It seems to move that option around to make it harder for me to get to it. Now, you're telling me it is overriding my default browser as well? I'm glad I dodged that bullet.

Yeah me too. Stayed on FB app version 7, and never updated. Lets you use messenger in fb app too. Most recent still there, adless(not adfree), lighweight, and best of all less permissions.

There's something that struck me: Facebook has integrated internet browsing in it's app but it externalised the chat... wtf!

Did this...now having a problem. When I click on links, it redirects me to the Fb.mobile page within my browser. Says "something went wrong" and then I must choose go back to Fb, or move on w the link....basically an extra page load and an extra click to get to whatever site I want to view. Any insights? Or is this fb's way to piss me off enough to turn external browsing off?

I'm sure this is probably outdated due to Facebook updates every 2 min. I just got the Note 8. My more, app settings, open externally only gibes me the option to open in internet browser not chrome. Which i hate the internet explorer. Any help would be appreciated. Happy Thanksgiving to you all!
