Here are the nominees for the 2016 Google Play Awards
Ok, so it isn't the Academy Awards. But Google has announced the nominees for this year's Google Play Awards. According to Google, the list contains "some of the best apps and games on Google Play, ranging from standout startups and indies to most innovative and best designed." The winners will be announced May 19th at 7pm and no, they will not be hosted by Neil Patrick Harris.

Google has nominated five different apps in ten different categories and has put all of the nominees together so that Android users can try out these highly regarded apps. The ten categories include: Standout Startup, Standout Indie, Best Families App, Best use of Material Design, Best Use of Google Play Game Services, Early Adopter, Go Global, Most Innovative, Best App, Best Game.

You can attend the ceremony if you are going to Google I/O. It will be held at 7pm PDT on Stage 7 at the developer conference. Or you can view the live stream from the Google I/O app. Information about the latter will be announced by Google as we get closer to the event.

In the meantime,. you can check out the nominations by clicking on the slideshow below. The list is posted in two formats. One shows the nominees and the awards that they are up for. The second goes into more detail about each nominated app.
