HTC to skip update to Android 5.0.2 and will go straight to Android 5.1 with Sense 7.0?
A tweet sent out by ROM developer @LlabTooFeR indicates that outside of the HTC One M9, which comes with Android 5.0.2 and Sense 7.0 out of the box, that combination will not be found on any other HTC handset. In other words, the manufacturer is skipping Android 5.0.2 altogether and instead will update certain models with Android 5.1 and Sense 7.0.

According to a second tweet, the HTC One (M8) will receive Sense 7.0 as will the HTC One M8s, the HTC Desire EYE, the HTC Butterfly 2 and some other devices. The HTC One (M7) is not supposed to receive Android 5.1 (except for the Google Play edition) since the manufacturer's two-year update guarantee has expired for this model. A tweet from HTC VP of Product Management Mo Versi left some hope for One (M7) owners, although nothing concrete has been said.

No word yet on when HTC will start rolling out the update to Android 5.1.

This seems to be a trend; both Motorola and HTC are doing it...

just a sorry excuse from motorola and HTC , google specifically released Android L as a preview to lollipop months before the final build , just to combat slow updates , but still the OEMs managed to mess up bad and now wait even longer casue we want to give you 5.1 , total B.S

Are you dense? Blame Google for releasing a still buggy lollipop build. Why update to 5.0.2 when it would be better to hold off and update to a hopefully more stable build of lollipop in 5.1?

That's the facts, Jack.

I must agree with you on this.. What Google has managed to do is mess up a perfectly functional (kitkat) Android and make a more eyecandy one with buggy code. OEM as well as aosp lollipop roms all suffer from the same issues like memory leak, battery drainage, random slow down and the occasional fc's

You guys are both dense. We did get 5.0.2 on our HTC devices. What are aren't getting is Sense 7, until the 5.1 update. I am running 5.0.2 right now, stock OTA on HTC One M8. What the story was saying is that you wont get Sense 7 until the 5.1 update is released... Jesus...

Have I missed the One M7's funeral?

I'm already running sense 7 on my m7. Go to XDA and flash a ROM. Why stay behind the rest? Don't blame HTC. We got many good developers here.

“The Android Lollipop update looks as if it will spread throughout 2015,” reports Phone Probe, “with the higher-end devices receiving the update in the first half of the year. Of those expected to get the Lollipop treatment in Q1 of 2015 are the HTC One M8 and the HTC One M7. As expected, they get the update first.” Q2 of 2015: One E8, Desire EYE, One M8 EYE, Butterfly 2. Q3 of 2015: One Max, M7 Dual SIM, Desire 816, Desire 820u, One M8 Mini, One E8 China, One M8 EYE China. Q4 of 2015: Desire 510, 610, 820s, and One Mini.

Android Lollipop is such a BS. why wouldn't Google made a separate Do Not Disturb Mode rather than to remove Silent Mode completely.

You will, M8 has better CPU and community behind it is enormous. If some update will not make it to the M8 it will be surely ported from M9 by devs on XDA. I doubt M8s will have any support on XDA

5.1.1. In the way no need for 5.1. Hope Samsung and LG update to 5.1.1. Not 5.1 only.

The AT&T variants of the One M8 got updated to 5.0.2 a few days ago...mine has it. So the title of this article isn't true.

With Sense 7, please read the title again...

Well I have an HTC One M8 and I just got the 5.0.2 update today. I have Sprint so that makes 2 carriers in the USA where this is not correct.

I am Chinese. I think the English used in the title of this article is very confusing. I would guess original tweet info actually meant that sense 7 update will not come with 5.0.2, but will come with 5.1 update. Well, I believe M8 has already been updated to 5.0.2 with sense 6

Yes, I think fiefie is correct. What the tweet really meant was that all models prior to the M9 that get 5.0.2 will keep sense 6 instead of 7 like the M9. They will get Sense 7 when they are upgraded to 5.1. I have Sprint and my M8 also received the 5.0.2 upgrade today, with Sense 6.

My phone took it upon its self to do this update while I was sleeping Sunday morning ... It deleted all of my contacts off my sim and my gmail ...wtf... I have a htc m8 less than six months old ... It down loaded the 5.0.2 which I wasn't supposed to get , at&t says htc (ok'ed) it 7 days ago

Yes, you were supposed to get 5.0.2. The update is auto. I have not heard of anyone's phone deleting the contacts. I think you have none default accounts displaying your contacts. Try going through the settings for your contacts. Did you do a factory reset on accident after the update? Either way you are supposed to get that update and once you enter your gmail into the phone, your contacts should come back up.

No factory reset at&t wants me to do one but since I run business with u I wanted to try everything before I did .... All of my contacts are gone from the phone Gmail and my SIM they were there before the update ... Any advice ?

Turn off your phone, pull your sim card and put it back in.

Add your gmail account to accounts & sync. The phone should be automatically adding your contacts from your gmail if not from your sim.
