HTC A16 specs leak: entry-level class reaffirmed

HTC A16 specs leak: entry-level class reaffirmed
Just a few hours ago, we got a pretty solid leak about a new device coming from HTC. Dubbed the HTC A16 (it is yet unknown whether this is just a project code name or the phone's actual name), the device was shown in 6 different finishes in an alleged leaked press render. While no comments were made on the handset's specs, rumors claimed a price-tag of around $150, which immediately got us thinking "entry-level smartphone".

Now, Twitter user @LlabTooFeR — ROM developer by day, reputable leakster by night —  has posted what he claims are the specs of the mystery phone. As previously speculated, it doesn't seem the A16 is going to be something to write home about – a Snapdragon 210 SoC, 1.5 GB of RAM, and 8 GB of expandable internal storage are allegedly under its hood. It's display is listed as having a 5-inch diagonal and a 720 x 1280 pixel resolution, and its cameras have an 8 MP sensor on the back and a 5 MP one on the front.

While there's no concrete word on whether we are going to see the A16 at the MWC 2016, leakster Evan Blass (@evleaks) did hint at it when he posted the renders of the device by saying "Tomorrow's news, yesterday". Either that, or we are reading into the tweet too much.

I suspect the numbering will be desire 6 or 5xx... but the design is interesting! Far better than the m10!

Why not a 6XX processor and put the freaking buttons on the black bar if you are going to use it

Here we go. First MS started cultivating underpowered phone culture with SD210 now HTC.

1,5GB Ram is fine.. 8MP Camera and a 5MP front-cam is also ok.. 8GB storage is kinda ok.. and it's probably a 5" phone or 4,7".. the only left would be CPU right now.. and I don't know much about Graphic processor., looks like u guys didn't like SD210, can someone tell me about GPU's?

The CPU performance would be on par with the snapdragon s4 plus from 4 years back which feels like a very underpowered soc by today's standards. Manufacturers just don't use the 2xx series now even in their cheapest phones. It is kinda odd that a brand like htc would still use this soc. The only positive out illa it would be the 64 bit architecture

Sd210 is even worse than s4 plus dude. S4 plus approximately similar to Sd615. S4 plus in Sony Z get geekbench and antutu 6 score similar to SD 615. S4 plus and sd615 get around 28- 35k in antutu SD 210 only gets about 20k. The GPU is adreno 304. Which is even inferior to adreno 305 in a 2 year old moto G and Sony M,m2... S4 plus can run 99.9% of games lag free still if the firmware is highly optimized. Only game I think might be laggy in the s4 plus is FIFA 16 which even iPhone 5 can't play. So Sd210 is crap. Useless .utter waste of money processor. Buying a HTC m7 is better than buying this so.

Seems like a new device from the "Desire" lineup

That 210 is gonna have a lot of issues with 720p screen. I've seen that even SD 400/410 has issues with 720p.

Yea the Moto g was terrible... will be fine but I don't understand why they remade the desire 626s again

If you ever used a moto G 2014 for an extended period of time, you would know how bad it works after you install a few apps. It literally takes over 10 seconds to open contacts. And the stutter is unbearable. Two of my friends have it and they are annoyed by it. It works good for the initial 2 weeks though. In contrast, the moto E runs much much better.

HTC, you have to price these like Xiaomi to compete. But then Xiaomi will not use a SD210 in 2016.
