HP Slate 7 affordable Android tablet up for preorder in Europe at €149

HP Slate 7 affordable Android tablet up for preorder in Europe at €149
After HP threw in the towel on outing devices with its the webOS platform it had purchased before, the CEO Meg Whitman hinted that the company has to make Android devices to stay competitive in the mobile realm.

While that strategy is apparently still been ironed out, HP managed to start slow with the aptly-named Slate 7 - a very downmarket Android tablet with a $170 price tag, ready to hit shelves this month.

The HP Slate 7 just appeared for preorder on a French retailer's site, hinting at a European launch, and the pricing there is €149, making it one of the most affordable Android tablets on the Old Continent, and certainly the cheapest brand-name slate there. The kicker is that the site is taking preorders, but availability seems to be almost two months from now, June 1st, so those who preorder will have some waiting to do.

That price is realistic for 7" tablet. Might consider taking one...

I think it has a 1024x600 or 1024x768 screen, and considering that for only 30 bucks more you can get a Nexus7... trust me, the high resolution screen does make a difference.

You're right... Nexus will probably go on discount when new generation arrives, in July, I think... I can wait that long.

I think that Hewlett and Packard would be rolling over in their graves with this product. The Legend of Silicon Valley, the company that owns the world class HP Labs are copying other vendors to offer cheap products. These people converted one of the best companies in the world to a Chinese copy shop... Last time they tried to come out with a tablet, they filled up the warehouses of their distributors with tablets and then announced that they will discontinue the product 30 days before the launch... HP screwed it's distributors pretty well... All attempts to make a mobile phone were disasters. Their own employees did not want to use them. I used two HP phones, both were horrible. Would I buy this product? No thank you!!!
