Google brings its Motion Stills app to Android so you can make your own GIFs

One of the few apps that Google first launched on iOS, Motion Stills has just made its way to Android platform. Apparently, Google has redesigned its current iOS video processing pipeline to use a streaming method that processes each frame of a video as it's being recorded.

Even though Google didn't have any intentions to bring Motion Stills on Android, fans were so vocal that the search giant was forced to comply. The app is fully compatible with all devices running Android 5.1 and later, so just about anyone with a decent smartphone could use Motion Stills.

But what exactly is Motion Stills? The answer is very simple: an app that allows you to turn any recording into short clips that can then be shared. Furthermore, the app allows you to either capture a short Motion Still or put together a longer recording into a new feature called Fast Forward.

Whenever Android users capture a longer video, they can use Fast Forward to speed up and condense it into a shorter one. It's even possible to change the speed of playback from 1x to 8x after recording.

The Android app features improved trimming algorithm which should prevent pocket shots and accidental camera shakes, aside from the usual stabilization functions.

Motion Stills for Android is available for free via Google Play Store. It should run perfectly on any device powered by Android 5.1 or newer.
