Samsung Gear S2 gets a massive update, check the new interface and functions

Samsung has a big software update in store for its Gear S2 smartwatch. So big, in fact, that it warranted a dedicate blog post explaining all the novelties that await the owners of its second-gen wearable. The Gear S2 update is available through the Samsung Gear app, and includes interface, as well as functionality enhancements, breathing new life in the affordable wearable.

To start off, there is a new App Shortcuts widget that arranges your most recent apps in the Gear S-line's signature circular format automatically, yet you can still pick what will be shown there manually. Moreover, a short pull-down gesture there will bring the Quick Panel menu with connectivity switches and other toggles.

The Gear S2 is a mighty exercise companion, and Samsung's Health app has made reading your pace and heart rate score easier on the eyes, available with just a short peek at the screen. The fresh Multi-workout widget will give you quick access to a preferred activity now, if you have set one, and the inactivity alerts can be tailored better so as not to interrupt in a bad time.

There are more options to use the Gear S2 as a controller now, with dedicated apps for TV, Gear VR or presentations, while Samsung extends the usefulness with a new full weather report that gets pushed to your watch each morning, along with a forecast, so you never leave unprepared. Svelte.
