Final retail packaging for 10th anniversary iPhone cases show the iPhone 8 moniker?
Last week, we saw a couple of reports concerning the name that Apple will give its tenth anniversary iPhone model. Up to now, everyone has called this device the Apple iPhone 8. Last Friday, we passed along a report stating that this version of the iPhone will actually be called the Apple iPhone Edition. The same rumor mentioned that the sequels to the Apple iPhone 7 and Apple iPhone 7 Plus will be named the Apple iPhone 8 and Apple iPhone 8 Plus, respectively.

If that wasn't enough to make your head spin, the very next day another rumor made its way around the water cooler. This time, the speculation had the tenth anniversary iPhone carrying the Apple iPhone X name. This actually has a double meaning that makes sense. The "X" can stand for a premium model, like Motorola intended with the DROID X back in 2010. Or, in the case of the iPhone, the X can be used to indicate that it is the unit's tenth anniversary phone. After all, the Roman numeral for the number 10 is "X."

Tuesday night though, tipster extraordinaire Evan Blass tweeted a pair of images that he says comes from the final box design for two cases intended for the variant of Apple's 2017 iPhone lineup wearing an OLED screen. There is only one such phone expected in 2017, and that is the tenth anniversary iPhone. And since both boxes reveal that the name of the premium iPhone model is the iPhone 8, we are back at square one with six days to go until Apple removes the wrapping off this year's Apple iPhone line. Keep checking in; the drama doesn't get better than this!
