Facebook sends out invites to its "new home on Android" for April 4th

Facebook sends out invites to its
We've been noting recently, that other than trying to find a way around the Google Play Store, Facebook hasn't been doing a whole lot to update its Android app. The iOS side of things has gotten voice calling slowly rolling out to more and more Facebook users, but Android has started to fall behind. Now, Facebook has sent out invites for an April 4th event in which it plans to show off its "new home on Android", and of course the rumor mill has already started running overtime to figure out what that might mean.

There are thoughts that it could be another attempt at a Facebook phone, although the first attempt with the HTC ChaCha really just had a dedicated Facebook button, it wasn't really a "Facebook phone". 9to5Google is pretty convinced that Facebook and HTC are working together again on a major ad campaign "designed to focus on the potential user of the device, not on the hardware or software."

It also could be some news about Facebook's plans around its new move to push updates outside of the Google Play Store. Or something completely different. We'll have to wait and see.

What do you guys think Facebook's "new home on Android" will be?

Instead of announcing a Facebook phone, how about reading the reviews on the Play store and fixing the damn app..

this 100%. Make it a somewhat decent app.

Facebook on android might be worse than itunes on windows. That's saying a lot.

I removed the app from my phone.... and than a week later I deactivated my account.
All I ever read/saw in my feed were a bunch of useless "shared" photos, quotes, and links to irrelevant websites. It was either that, or delete all my friends. haha. I don't think i will reactivate my account even after this unveiling

What else you think face book is. Most people just post random things in there lives hoping that its interesting to other people. Or to brag how cool they are.. That and to reunite with old friends thinking this time around that it will be different. Thats 90% of what facebook is.

If they decide to put new T&C on it, I'll stick to the one in the Play Store.

hmm...i don't know what they could mean by "new home on Android" but there's several things that we could see on the 4th. improvements to the app (like an improved Tablet layout) seems likely maybe also the Poke app being brought to Android, Google Now integration, maybe even some hardware. they might also take the chance to talk about their plans for Google Glass.

All I'm interested in hearing about from FB as well is that they are going to fix the dang app. Features I actually liked (such as swipe to delete comments) have been missing from the app for months, while more and more worthless crap is showing up in the app. And what is this about being redirected to the browser for timeline review??? Dumb, dumb, dumb...

Not going to lie, my Play Store reviews for FB are getting more and more hostile with each update. Were the developers allowed to go back to their iPhones or something?
