Blind Camera Comparison: you choose which smartphone's camera did best

It has been several weeks since our last blind camera comparison – a comparison which the Samsung Galaxy S5 dominated. Back then, Samsung's flagship received almost a third of all votes, followed by the HTC One (M8) and the Sony Xperia Z2. Will one of these smartphones prevail this time, or will it be some other handset? Well, the outcome is in our readers' control, actually.

In the slideshows below you'll find photos of three different scenes, shot with six highly-acclaimed smartphones. Of course, we're not going to tell you which phones we've used and we're not going to give away any hints. It is called a blind comparison for a reason. All we ask from you is to take a look at the images and to vote for the phone which you think has taken the best pictures.

You should know that we've stripped all EXIF data from the photo samples so don't even bother looking for hints there. Also, we've shrunk them all to a resolution of 2400 by 1350 pixels in order to make the game fair for all handsets.

So let the voting begin! You can find the poll form at the very bottom of this post. The results will be announced in a separate post within a few days.

Which phone's photos do you like best?

Samsung Galaxy S5 (Phone 6)
34.11%
LG G3 (Phone 2)
33.91%
iPhone 5s (Phone 1)
12.1%
LG G2 (Phone 4)
6.98%
HTC One (M8) (Phone 3)
6.58%
Sony Xperia Z2 (Phone 5)
6.32%

“Also, we've shrunk them all to a resolution of 2400 by 1350 pixels in order to make the game fair for all handsets." I think its unfair to strip features of a phone just to level it down to the underperformers. Just saying my opinion. Not all cameras work the same way. A camera may be excellent at large res photos but doesnt at small photos and vice versa.

Exactly. If anything, they should upscale all the photos to match the highest resolution shot. That way they don't put any phone at a disadvantage, just highlight the inferiority of low res cameras like M8.

but it makes it easier for fanboys to skew the results for voting for the ones shot by their favorite devices.

Exactly. We all know those phones have excellent cameras. Each have pros and cons. If they want blind, shoot at each camera's max res. Its a face off then.

I voted for number 1, the #2 and #6 are too saturated for my taste, #1 captures more light

phone 2 and 6 are good but phone 2 is a bit oversaturated so Phone 6

I hope you realise the colours of Phone 6 are so oversaturated they could literally be used to replace the effects of tripping on acid.

They have surely added G3 this time . Every time a new phone introduced in the market ,we find a blind camera comparison .

Actually, yeah, i didn't read the whole title. But still you should get the point of my opinion. In order to "choose which smartphone's camera did best" you still need a reference photo, right? Otherwise how can you make your decision. And smurf i may be a "dumb" person for asking which seems to me a logical perspective still i'm not a paid troll like you.

Paid troll? You mad you couldn't read the title? It clearly said Blind Camera Comparison. It's actually the first three words of the title lololol.

i agree with hboy857 WE NEED A REFERENCE HDR CAMERA TO COMPARE WITH BUT STILL IT CAN CONSIDER AS BLIND COMPARISON SINCE WE HAVE NO IDEA WHICH ONE IS THE G3, S5, M8,IPHONE5S so on... I VOTED FOR #3 ,#2

don't bother. that sammy fanny something samsung-made as the best in everything so there is never going to be a need for a reference for him. who says color accuracy and dynamic range matter?

When you take a picture of something with your smartphone, you're never going to have an identical reference DSLR shot. You're going to want the best looking shot to your eyes, which is what you are choosing in this blind camera comparison...

No sir. I love Phone Arena's Blind Comparisons. Would love to see more. One of the best things PA does. More tests would instill faith in a consistent result. Without more, we really don't know if some cameras perform better on some days will not so much on other days. Or how much the 'conditions' have a varying effect on the results. I voted 6 and would have voted 2 next. Very close between the two phones. BTW, I own an LG G2 before the trolls attack me. My feeling is that 6 is the GS5 and 2 is the Z2. 3 and 4 are most likely M8 and G3 respectively. 1 is the iphone 5s and 5 i don't know.

My vote goes to Phone no. 2

I voted for no.2 just because I love this oversaturation that it's camera gives! It is my personal opinion and I find no.2 and no.6 even, but picked 2nd one just for the saturated colors. :)

I think #2 is LG G3! nad #6 is Samsung galaxy s5

I think #2 is the iPhone 5s, it tends to have dark over saturated colors. Either Phone 1 or Phone 5 is the S5 but we don't have a reference photo to see how accurate the color is so maybe not...

Only three scenes and no lowlight scenes? This is probably the second time in recent times Phonearena ignored lowlight scene in Blind Camera comparison. Seems very biased toward certain phone.

52. steedsofwar unregistered

Yep, that is a big omission. It does skew the results in favour of the GS5
