Battery life declining on your smartphone? Clear your cache!

If you notice that the battery life on your  smartphone is declining rapidly, you might want to clear the cache on your phone. For example, this morning the battery on our Moto Z Force Droid was consuming a ridiculous 15% an hour, two to three times the results that we were achieving before. We found that one app (AnTuTu) had gone rogue, but even deleting it did not return the battery life to an acceptable range.

So we decided to clear the cache on the phone. For those unaware, the cache is where some files for apps and websites are kept on a phone in order to speed up the time it takes for your handset to load them. If you have the Moto Z Force Droid, clearing the cache is a snap. Go to Settings > Storage > Internal Shared Storage > Cached Data > OK (to confirm). This will also work on the  Moto Z Droid.

We were extremely happy with the results. Once we cleared the cache, our battery was back to burning through only 5% of power every hour. So if you're having problems with your battery life and the technical support guy at your carrier suggests doing a factory reset, try clearing the cache first. Since different phones have different ways to clear the cache, you should use Google to find out how it is done on your handset. After you're done, say a little prayer and hopefully you will be getting great battery life on your phone once again.

Keep in mind that clearing the cache is also good if you have an app that freezes or otherwise malfunctions, or if your phone is running sluggishly.

I think deleting cache has nothing to do with battery life! Only useful to have some more ROM free space, to have better battery life, root and install "Greenify" app to manage apps and "Leandroid" app to manage connectivity, there is another usefull app called "HEBF" that has a nice feature to lower used CPU cores and frequency to save battery when screen is off. BTW greenify will work better if it is in combination with xposed to prevent annoying wakelocks

Power to you if you love tinkering with stuff like Greenify and etc but Im a bit pass the tinkering heavily/ROMING stage, the OS should be able to intelligently and efficiently manage these processes. Nougat does a pretty great job at this If you aren't on Nougat then I can understand. Dam pesky wake drains and rogue processes and etc

I'm on Nougat on my Nexus 6P and right now, battery life is horrible... though this was only the case after the latest beta update... I think I need to remove myself from the beta program, there are simply too many issues.

And what you think is wrong, it does effect battery life. Not all phones can be rooted, and most consumers don't want to void their warranty.

I wish I could do that (I did it on my old Galaxy SIII), but I use Android Pay, so rooting my Moto X Pure isn't in the cards :P

In standby, my 7 Plus burns about 1% battery every couple hours. Its got one helluva battery, I'll give it that. My Edge burns about 3% an hr. Damn background processes. I went into developer options, and limited the background processes, but that just makes it reload everything.

It has to do with on of the apps you downloaded bro. My S7 which has smaller battery, drains 1% almost every 2 hours, and I have nothing disabled, not even AOD.

I went back to the standard limit. I also think it's the SD processor. The exynos is much more optimized. Notice you comment got a like, but mines didn't lol? I can guess why lol.

@plastic Think about how your great grandparents felt when they first came here and people made fun of their English. I bet they felt bad. They would be so sad to see you now.

GTFOH with that. That jerk sits here all day spewing racism, attacking people, and you wanna defend him cause his English is bad. First off, he claims to be from America, second, all is fair in love and war. When you attack people, expect them to hit you back. If he's going to come here strictly to start trouble, and 40 banned accounts suggest exactly that, then he needs to have his ducks in a row, cause no one gives a damn about his bad grammar. Don't try to take up for a flaming idiot racist, unless you're one yourself. He's a trouble maker, plain and simple.

Apple fanboy Donald Trumps supporters and fans are all racist, because they are true USA, American patriot. Just like you would be, though you are from Africa or Zulu roots....

Actually, I know English, Spanish, and Portuguese with the latter being my primary language. I'm also not the one claiming to be an "American Patriot" or telling immigrants to "Go back to Israel" like that bigoted ass-clown you're currently defending. But hey, guess racism and xenophobia don't matter in the grand scheme of things, amirite?/s

My Droid Turbo loses about 1℅ an hour if wifi is on 2℅ with auto-sync and wifi, 2-3℅ an hour with mobile data and 4-5℅ with mobile data + auto-sync and if i turn everything off it's 1℅ every two hours. I have never disabled moto display actions and notifications so I'm pretty much happy. 10℅ on my phone lasts me an hour of web browsing easily at auto brightness on half. My sister has an iPhone 7 Plus and it loses like 4-5℅ in eight hours but it loses charge quickly when you start using it. The first 3℅ drop is rather steep... I think that's how iOS shows battery longevity. Maybe it shows inflated battery stats during standby and makes up for it in the first 5 mins of usage..

Maherk is your S7 on 7.0 yet? 7.0 brings good improvements to Doze compared to Marshmallow including Doze still being activated while the device is moving as opposed to Doze on Marshmallow only working if the device has stayed still for a little while If so, check your sync options/reinstall your apps back one at a time.

Yes bro, I have been on Nougat since the beta program started, then received the final version in the 1st week or so of 2017. I have had no problems what so ever since Beta 4, extremely pleased with the Nougat experience.
