Backup of data and restore points coming to Windows Phone 7
An upcoming update to the still young Windows Phone 7 operating system is bringing a couple features to the table that users of the old Windows Mobile platform could only dream about.

So what are these features exactly? Well, for starters, these are features that other phones have utilized for years. How about the ability to backup data? How about the ability to restore your phone to a certain point in time if it isn’t functioning properly? This is what is coming to Windows Phone 7.

In past iterations of Microsoft’s mobile OS, the installing of a new ROM would cause the loss of data and force the user to have to manually restore everything. Anyone that has ever had to spend hours restoring their data can attest to how annoying that really is.

The backing up of information is possible thanks to the on-board Zune software. When updating to a new version of the OS, the Zune software will back everything up, then restore it after the new software has finished installing. Moreover, the Zune software will save that backup in case the phone isn’t functioning properly or data goes missing.
