Asus ZenFone 5Z now available for pre-order in the US (at a decent price)

Not long ago, Asus told us that its ZenFone 5Z smartphone would be released in the US in mid or late August. If you're interested in this handset, we're glad to inform you that it can now be pre-ordered via Amazon, and should start shipping on August 13.

Update: Asus is now accepting ZenFone 5Z pre-orders via its own web store (see the first source link below). The handset costs $499 and its estimated delivery date is August 6.

At the moment, only the midnight blue variant of the Asus ZenFone 5Z can be pre-ordered, but a silver model should be available soon, too. As for the price of the phone, this is an attractive one: $499, US warranty included.

The ZenFone 5Z is a high-end handset that comes unlocked and is fully compatible with AT&T and T-Mobile, but not with Verizon and Sprint. Made out of aluminum and glass, the smartphone runs Android 8 Oreo (customized with Asus' ZenUI) and is quite powerful - thanks to a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor and 6 GB of RAM. Other notable features include a 6.2-inch Super IPS+ display with 1080 x 2246 pixels, dual rear camera (12 MP + wide angle 8 MP), dual speakers, 64 GB of expandable storage space, and a 3300 mAh battery.

Unlike most high-end smartphones currently on the market, the Asus ZenFone 5Z is not water-resistant. But we guess that's a compromise you have to make if you need a powerful handset that doesn't cost more than $500.

And here in India Asus Zenfone 5Z is being sold starting $390 for which it's an absolutely no brainer and even a better pick than likes of OnePlus 6 which in itself is already a better pick than others. And i do see it selling very very decently. Already crossed sales of likes of Honor View 10 and Honor 10 which have been selling for 2+ months in just 15 days of it's availability. Also catching up fast with OP6.

Great phone from Asus at a great price. Definitely a better value than OP6 and just as good.

A better deal than OP6. OnePlus is so overrated.

According to everyone else, the camera is not as good (even spec wise). it has less storage, and less RAM which makes it cheaper. What else?

If you enjoy non-stock Android and gimmick "AI" features, sure.

Yes, they are coming to the competition pace! I'm still dreaming OP6 OR these well rated Asus zenfon 5z but I can't get it. No roads to buy it even if I afford the money or can purchase it.

Should have a 2k screen.

Why? 2k screens are a useless gimmick to sell phones to gullible folks.

I wonder what the camera is like? I'm sure with the SD 845, the photos will look pretty decent.

I'll take one when available at that price just for giggles and back up. Hard to stay mad at a decent bang for the buck.

Great Price. So I expect the ASUS ROG phone to be no more than $999. I wonder when will the 256GB version be available, and for what price. I'm guessing $599.

One day soon within the next half-decade, God will strike down all makers of these vile loathsome notch phones and their sinful users. Make the mobile world great again, denounce and boycott the notch!

Zenfone 5Z is definitely much better deal than the OP6. My co. Worker has one. It has a solid build with a shimmering concentric back that's signature of Asus. The camera is the same as my S9+. If the OP is the flagship killer, then the 5Z is the OP killer.
