Apple iPhone SE unboxing and first look

Apple iPhone SE unboxing and first look

The new old iPhone, aka the iPhone SE, has arrived in our office and we rush to unbox it and give you a first glimpse at the only 4" modern phone on the market.

The iPhone SE features the old iPhone 5s design, but on the inside it's a brand new beast, on par with the iPhone 6s with its cutting-edge Apple A9 system chip and new 12MP camera with 4K video and support for the cool Live Photos.

Stay tuned for our full Apple iPhone SE review coming up in the next few days, but for starters, take a look at our unboxing of the handset, as well as at some first hand impressions.

What's in the box?
  • User manual
  • Two Apple decals
  • Sim ejector tool
  • White Apple 'EarPods' earbuds
  • Lightning to USB-A cable
  • Wall charger (5V - 1A)

Why is another article doing this again? Especially when phonearena already release an article a few days ago on the iPhone SE first looks.

"best phone for 2016" Being a huge apple fan that i am.. not even i can agree with that statement... sure it MIGHT be the Best 4inch phone of 2016.. but this phone loses out to its larger iPhone brothers as well to Note, Galexy, G5 etc

The phone's target is the 4-inch industry. I find the 4-inch a sweet spot since my hands are small so I might upgrade from my aging 5.

Dude, what are you like...5? Just messing. But like how tall are you? Because my kid is small and thin at 6 years old. This device is only slightly larger than the iPhone 4/4S, but he has long fingers like me. Even in his tiny hands, the iPhone 4 appears very small. My wife also has tiny hands since she is Filipina and she has a Note 5. She's had the S4, S5 and other phones that were roughly 4" in size and she thinks they are too small. Can you palm a 16" softball? If so, then your hands are not that small. if you lay this phone in your hand, and look at your hand from the top and ,you can't see the phone inside your hand, then your hand is small, maybe medium size which would be a sweet spot to use a small or large device equally. Small phones are terrible for reading. Too much scrolling on webpages and photos.

I'm just a student studying at high school who has a thing for technology. Glad to hear your wife is a Filipina as I'm a Filipino too.

No you are not a huge Apple fan but a iFanatic cult. That's what you've should've said. There's a big difference between fan and a fanatic iCult.

What you need to learn is Apple does thing differently.. Apple HD screens for example are sharp.. Really sharp, so sharp that you can look up fanboy reactions to owning their first iPhone and they alway remark at how sharp and how close Apples HD screen is to FHD.. With some saying it's as good. Apples screens on the iPhone 5-6 are as I have found to be as sharp as any android HD screen.

yeah right.. 400dpi + apple logo = 999999999999 dpi + not apple logo with the help of apple magic...

Yes and different is not always good! You know that the screens are not made by Apple right? I know you want to defend Apple but sorry to say but the SE is just crap! But good luck with your SE.......(sarcasm)

When i say Apples HD screens.. i'm referring to the HD screens Apple has chosen to use.. not that Apple had manufacture them. I would of thought that was obvious.

Differently doesn't = better and this case its plan stupid. For me the size of the phone isn't that big of an issue. The main problem with this phone is they already used this design or similar 3 other times with the iPhone 5, 5S and 5C. Using the iPhone 6/6S design would have been smaller even at 4". Even though some peopel ahve bought it, the vast majority even with one of the iPhone 5x models, wont see this as an upgrade. PA already reported that peopel were still buying more 5S' even with this one being available. After all, if you can get a brand new 5S for $250, what fool would pay $400 for the exact same thing? Please understand, lots of people don't understand specs and internals, they are looking at the physical phone and say, this looks just like this phone right here in my hand already. Are you sure it's actually new? 640p is a terrible resolution based on today's standard. 3 years ago 640p was still crappy but was acceptable I guess, but 1080p was pretty much the norn Apple "HIGH DENSITY" display ona 4" screen is terrible for reading ANYTHING. The type is too tiny, the constant pinching in and out, the constant scrolling. Again, when it was he norm we just had to accept what was available. Butt today 4" is not the norm 5" is and Apple was stupid to make this. Apple 4.7" iPhone to be is a "perfect" small size phone. Even if you have kiddie fingers it can be operated with one had. But 750p is garbage. It should be 1280x800 or 1920x1080. I wear contacts and even with them, when I use my 4" iPhone, I have to hold to phone close to me face to read text unless I zoom in. Why buy a device where I have to waste more time zooming in an out when I can just get a larger screen? Stop justifying this piece of junk. In 2012 when the iPhone 5 came out, 1080p 4.7" displays were becoming the norm. So this phone still was ok because were were still in size transition. This is 2016 now and that transition has been made. Even Apple has a 5.5" phone. To go back 4 years and regurgitate this junk is unforgivable for any OEM. If Samsung did this you all would be pissing on their grave, but with Apple you want to pour honey on their grave. I love the iPhone 5S. I have stated this is the most beautiful phone Apple has EVER made. The SE is no less the same. But it is the same and that is a problem. Resurrecting a 4 year old design and not even improving it on the outside is lame and cheap.

I think you will find.. the people who are still buying the iPhone 5S are the average consumer.. who knows little to anything about smartphones..let alone knowing Apple has just released SE.. It makes sense for the carriers to sell off the rest of the 5S before it's too late and they are left with a net loss. Later this year they will be released a new 4inch phone with the 4.7 & 5.5 it makes no sense what so ever adopting a new design or using new tech on a phone that would be replace 6 months later.. I personally think Apple saw sales were not strong with the 6s and hoped the 4inch would be another 5.5 inch moment.. i think they hoped to make up for the fall in demand to buy themselves time SE is an act of desperation..

I don't understand how Live Photos is a feature. Has anyone actually used it besides the first day/week? "Hey guys, watch this live photo of you guys standing there and preparing for the actual photo!" "Neat!" "Hey guys, I took a live photo of the race! But I only got a couple of seconds cuz, ya know, it's a live photo and didn't use the normal record function.. But look, it moves when I hold the screen!" "Neat!"

Nice, But do you really need to do an un-boxing as it is practically an un-boxing of the iPhone 5s? Just like the S7 and S7 Edged where an un-boxing of the S6 and S6 edged. No unboxing is really necessary just the review.
