Angry Birds downloaded 8 million times on Christmas Day

Exactly one year ago today, we informed you that Angry Birds was downloaded 6.5 million times on Christmas Day. With all of those new devices found under the tree this year, the number of Angry Birds downloads this past Christmas rose to 8 million. This is a total that includes all Angry Birds games available, including the latest one, Angry Birds Star Wars which has remained number 1 on the U.S. iTunes chartsince its release. Rovio did not breakdown the stats for each specific version of  the game.

You have to hand it to Rovio. With 8 million downloads on Christmas Day and 17.4 million new iOS and Android activations on that day, we can assume that 46% of newly received iOS and Android devices had the game loaded up on December 25th. That is only an assumption, obviously, but still shows you how much a part of the mobile ecosystem the game has become. With 30 million downloads of the game taking place during Christmas week, Angry Birds has become one of the first apps downloaded by those receiving a new iOS or Android device.
