Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread update for the Xperia PLAY is said to enable 720p recording

When 720p video recording is seemingly becoming prevalent amongst smartphones, we’re naturally bummed whenever some respectable device comes trotting along without it – say like the Sony Ericsson Xperia PLAY. Indeed, its focus is profoundly more evident in the gaming front, but we’re sure that handset owners would love to see it offer high-definition 720p recording instead of only 480p.

Well folks, there’s possibly some good news heading your way as many people are reporting that the upcoming Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread update for the handset will enable support for 720p video recording.  Even better, it’s going to pack continuous auto-focus as well to keep everything sharp looking.

Still, we can’t celebrate just yet because the update isn’t widely available, but rather, multiple XDA forum members who are sporting the new build are confirming its existence. In any event, we can only hope and pray that it ends up making it to the official update when it’s released.
