Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread update for the Xperia PLAY is said to enable 720p recording
When 720p video recording is seemingly becoming prevalent amongst smartphones, we’re naturally bummed whenever some respectable device comes trotting along without it – say like the Sony Ericsson Xperia PLAY. Indeed, its focus is profoundly more evident in the gaming front, but we’re sure that handset owners would love to see it offer high-definition 720p recording instead of only 480p.

Well folks, there’s possibly some good news heading your way as many people are reporting that the upcoming Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread update for the handset will enable support for 720p video recording.  Even better, it’s going to pack continuous auto-focus as well to keep everything sharp looking.

Still, we can’t celebrate just yet because the update isn’t widely available, but rather, multiple XDA forum members who are sporting the new build are confirming its existence. In any event, we can only hope and pray that it ends up making it to the official update when it’s released.

Continuous Auto-Focus has done so well on the Droid 3 and Bionic. Why not. All my videos look like I can't stop zooming in and out.

Wait until the Xperia Play 2 comes out. I'm expecting at least a dual core processor, 1GB of RAM, 4.3 inch display, super LCD, etc etc. The first one IMO was a big let down because other than the slide out controller and a few and I mean a FEW PS1 games, there wasn't much else to this device. Sure it was running android 2.3 from the start but not much else. You can easily download APK files off the web for PSX4Droid and other emulators for free.

Just an FYI.. .there is a talented developer out there the has come up with a way for us to dump playstation ISOs so that they are playable on the Xperia Play. These work with the emulator that comes with the phone. So basically any ps1 game can be played on the phone... some don't play as nice but there are a lot out there that do.

I have somewhere to the tune of fifty (that's 50) games on my play, most running better than I remember on their original consoles. Notice I said consoleS? As in plural? Between GBA, NES, SNES, PSX, and Sega games I hardly have time to play them all. Awesome phone, now only if the bootloader were unlockable...
