5 good reasons to try HERE Maps on your iPhone or Android device
Initially available only on Windows Phone devices, HERE Maps (formerly known as Ovi Maps and Nokia Maps) can now be downloaded on Android and iOS, thus being accessible to most smartphone users around the world. Android was the first major platform to get HERE Maps (in the second half of 2014), with iOS following this year.

While it's similar in many aspects to Google Maps and Apple Maps (the default maps and navigation apps on Android and iOS, respectively), HERE Maps is a worthy alternative, and it actually offers a major feature that Apple and Google have yet to implement. In fact, there are several reasons why you should give HERE Maps a try, even if you already like Apple Maps and/or Google Maps. Check them out below.

It's worth mentioning that HERE Maps for Android and HERE Maps for iOS have high ratings (in Google Play and Apple's App Sore, respectively), so it's not just us who think it's a well made application. Of course, we're not suggesting you should ditch Google Maps or Apple Maps for HERE Maps, but trying them all won't hurt.

Have you tried HERE Maps yet? If the answer is yes, let us know what you like and dislike about it in the comments section. If the answer is no, you can download the app via the links below.

Quite OK map app, in the same league with google and apple maps. Offline maps, or the way is implemented, is a big plus for *here*. As navigation: not a real navigation app. Again, in the same league as the above. The (basic!) functionality of setting way-points is missing - big NO, imho. Waze: I am looking at you too!

If you need to repeat yourself in every article, its become an issue of low class vs a no class person.

I like it because it has offline map for my country, unlike Google Maps.

I am concerned that HERE maps may not be free for long given the recent purchase by the automotive conglomerate.

I wouldn't be too concerned bro, they're going to use here for research purposes, however here is self sufficient, at most I see it having ads or monthly/yearly subscription.

What I like - an almost instant lock on the GPS signal on my Lumia 920, 'find my car' option, real time traffic information...very useful in the morning while going to work. Most of all, it's a great, functional and useful free app. What I hate - got to go offline and restart the app, if I have to input GPS coordinates. This bogs me down. Still 5 out of 5 for this amazing app.

Here Maps, the best navigation app around! Using it for years now started with Ovi Maps, Here Maps is truly offline and turn by turn! It kills Apple and Google Maps!

You can ditch google map and ios map. Here map is way better. It has speed limit display and speed warning.

Here is fantastic for traveling overseas! I use the offline maps on every trip! I do find that it's not very good about announcing turns or showing what the next turn will be. I'll give it a solid C for navigation.. but an A alone for letting me navigate at all while away from home! I don't travel without downloading the map for the country I'm visiting!
