iPhone is number one smartphone worldwide based on mobile web use

In North America, the iPhone and iPod Touch were numbers one and two in usage during December with the Motorola DROID a hard charging third for all devices-second in the smartphone category. Some might consider that an amazing achievement considering that the DROID has been out only since the first week in November. Other smartphones in top ten internet usage for December (in North America) include the HTC Dream and Hero in 3rd and 4th. In 5th place was the BlackBerry 8300 Curve, followed by the Motorola Cliq, HTC Magic and the Palm Pre. The HTC DROID Eris was 9th and the Samsung Moment rounds out the top ten.

well it looks like in africa and asia they prefer using symbian on nokia models more than the iphone so the iphone is not the number one smartphone worldwide like the article says it is. cause if it would been best worldwide then they would use the iphone more in those places too which they dont.

Any other "surveys" that can be skewed to make Apple look better? I think I've seen one that says Apple is known to reduce the risk of strokes, but in all actuality, it's just because most Apple users are younger. Might I add though, it doesn't specify WHICH iPhone is being recorded, so my guess is they're using all 3 as 1 iPhone model... Isn't that just completely misleading? If you're going to use all the Apple OS phones as 1, then you have to do the same with Android, WinMo, Symbian, Web OS, etc. You can't split some up and combine others just to achieve the results you're looking for... Yet another survey that is a lie and should be thrown out.

I believe the point was the OS, as in Mobile Safari generating all that mobile web traffic. At that point it would be fair to group all Iphones together as the survey is also grouping all phones using any Symbian OS browser, any WinMo browser, any Android browser, etc. I am not an iPhone fan but its hard to argue that Mobile Safari has a ton of users and they use a lot of internet. Still, the Droid being third in devices already is pretty impressive.

I read the entire article and didnt have anything to say about it until i read your post. You wanted the OS's to be grouped by well...the OS and not the device they are one...which is shown by the PIE chart. I was merely pointing that out. I could care less what the bar graphs say or what those other comparison charts say. Im defending the PIE chart.

This article, however accurate it may be, proves only that the iPhone is more widely used to access the web. That makes perfect sense too, when you think about it, since it really made web surfing more popular than anybody else had at the time, and why wouldn't it? 3.5" touchscreen + good browser = good phone for web surfing (better than a lot of other phones like Blackberry's). Just don't look too hard at the other numbers out there, iPhone fanatics. You'll be disappointed to see that Symbian still owns them in sheer volume of devices out there. But hey, Apple's not doing too bad for three models. We'll see what the future brings for everybody.
