iPhone 5S fingerprint scanner confirmed in iOS 7 beta 4

iPhone 5S fingerprint scanner confirmed in iOS 7 beta 4
If the rumors are right, Apple will be announcing new hardware in just over a month, which would mean that iOS 7 should be closing in on its final form soon. Today saw the release of iOS 7 beta 4, and the change log for the new beta release has a couple interesting additions, including possible confirmation that there will be a fingerprint scanner on a new Apple product.

For the most part, beta 4 is filled with bug fixes more than anything else, but developer Hamza Sood has uncovered what looks to be solid evidence that new Apple hardware will include a fingerprint scanner. In the update package, Sood found a folder labeled "BiometricKitUI", which was a good indicator, but the code carried the real smoking gun.

The code for iOS 7 expressly describes the set-up process for a fingerprint scanner embedded in the iPhone Home button. During the set-up tutorial, there will apparently be a photo showing "a person holding an iPhone with their left hand while touching the Home button with their thumb", and "A fingerprint that changes colour during the setup process."

We had heard before that the iPhone 5S had production delays because of the fingerprint scanner, and this seems to confirm the hardware. This would be a pretty big change for an "S" iPhone, which usually just focuses on internal specs boosts. Of course, the code doesn't necessarily mean there will be a fingerprint scanner in the iPhone 5S, but it's a s

It would be a lot easier to have an on-screen fingerprint scanner for Apple and iPhone 5S case companies such as OtterBox and LifeProof.

Didn't people get all up in arms about the Prism news. Yet I see ya'll happy about apple having your fingerprints. So if the government or some half decent hacker ask/gets your fingerprints. What you gonna do? Fingerprints are for life and easiest way to track you.

So it's going to be S4 : Air Gestures, continue using your phone while your hands are wet or dirty. VS iP5S : Fingerprint scanner, can't unlock your phone if hands are wet or dirty. Yeah, only iFans and Tech Dinosaurs are gonna find this good. Interesting? Yes, functional, hell no, it's Apple...

Fingerprint is more for scurity purpose. And air geature can not be used on all apps. If im forced to chose which one between those features would like to have. Ill chose to secure my phone contents anyday.

These tech companies are infringing more and more into things that should be left private. For example our DNA and our finger prints. This is getting ridiculous. I am not getting another iPhone or phone that's needs to read dna, our eyeball or finger print. For one its private and two apple Samsung google and others has a history of using sensitive information for selfish and who knows what else purposes. Our government need to limit the gathering of private information, it's actually getting scary

I think it's good that they went with a physical scanner as opposed to a digital one. I actually really enjoyed this feature on my Motorola Atrix.

Boom, this innovation is hugeeee.......Together with their new strict approach to do factory reset, this fingerprint scanner will surely make the iP completely serured in term of outsider access. Now, the only remaining issue is the security in the OS itself. Rather than that, it truely is "SECURED BY APPLE". Without its owner, the phone is completely a brick. Welldone!

I had a biometric scanner on my old wm6.5 LG expo. I hated it, people forget our prints change just enough with moist skin or overly dry to mess scanner up an not recognize you. As well, it ate battery an had a foil layer that would wear away for some people of the forum for that phone. I see nothing but trouble.

Hey buddy, you know what?! Before the iPhone, when talking about touch screen phones, people just scream their ass out that the touch sensitivity and accuracy is horrible, bla,bla..., When the iP came out, everything goes touch screen. Man, When APPLE do it, they do it just right! don't blame their works untill you get one on hands.

Just hope they can implement it better. I'm sure they consider the cons of having such feature and minimize the problems like what you said.

you people really need to get out, get laid, get a job, get drunk...do something else then to come on here and debate on who has better innovations or what phone is better or faster or clearer. WHO CARES!!!! I am now just as much as a loser or like people say in some of the comments above "looser", wait I'm sorry let me add another to the first line "get educated" but anyway like I was saying, I am now just as much of a loser for making an account to say this. Unbelievable

They might add it as an accessory, something that needs to be plugged into the phones lightning port. That way they can charge the customer another $50-100 for an iproduct.

This is a joke. People are morons if they are going to leave there iPhone 5 for a 5s just because it has a fingerprint scanner on the home button. Yea nice investment.

Its only just missing abt 20 of the newest features on android, that are all better!

This is not confirmation of it being on the 5s at all. It's just proof that they've started implementation of the UI for it on the beta. The leaked 5s home button part shows no signs of a biometric scanner. That's not to say it won't be on the 5s, but it's not really safe to assume it will be either.

Wow, its abt time apple does something new, but i dont think a finger scanner is going to persuade android users to switch. Sorry
