YouTube for Windows Phone devolves back to just web links with new update
Normally, you would expect updates to add features, and make apps better, but that has not been the trend recently for the Windows Phone YouTube app. The Windows Phone YouTube app has been hotly contested with Microsoft pushing to give its users a better native YouTube experience (although it has overstepped Google's rules), and Google shutting things down consistently.

The newest update to YouTube for Windows Phone devolves the app all the way back to where it started where it is essentially just a link to the mobile website. The worst part about this is that it is actually a bit of good news for Windows Phone users, because the YouTube app had been unusable before this update.

There are still 3rd party YouTube apps available that may give you a better experience than accessing the mobile website through Internet Explorer (which is what the app is now). Still, we're going to keep our fingers crossed that Microsoft and Google can finally sort this whole mess out and give the people what they want.

Google is doing it on purpose. WP8 is a competitor to android and bing is a competitor to Google search, Google wants to improve neither and make sure it stays worse.

I use WP8 and its annoying not having an official app, there are just so many corners cut. However i understand what google is doing. I mean it is business after all and they are trying to get as much money as possible - much like microsoft when it began. It's karma really...

It's simple: a company fighting for market share will always make its apps for the OS that has higher market share, which is exactly what Microsoft is doing. If Google was in Microsoft's place and MS in Google's in terms of market share, then Google would certainly be making its apps for MS' OS, pretty much like they currently do for desktop Windows. It's all business, nothing we can do about it except rage and hope they turn around. As someone who has an iPad, Android and Windows Phone in the house, I really, really hope Google makes apps for WP. Fingers crossed.

We all are between them. They are fighting and we all are hurting. Stupid companies can't understand what people need.

Shatter, If that's the case then why did it make one for IOS? Apple isn't a competitor? BING is as much a competitor Google search as askjeeves is a competitor to Google search.Google doesn't want to make a native app until they see more of a market share. If Microsoft didn't keep trying to break their Terms of Serice then act like babies about it then there could have a huge step in the right direction. Hopefully both companies can work out this stupidity and do right by the users. If not the 3rd party apps are actually quite good.

You're absolutely right. People are thinking this is a competitive or market gaining issue, when it actually isn't. Windows Phone 8 and Bing aren't very big competitors to Google's Android or search engine for that matter. If Google was really worried about its competition then it would stop supporting it's apps for iOS.

Google and Microsoft are competing for advertising dollars with their search engines. Apple isn't really in that picture since they don't make their bulk of money through advertising unlike Google. So by them supporting iOS, they get all those users to use their services since Apple doesn't really offer anything superior (i.e. Apple Maps). More money for Google, not just being a "nice company".

And the sky is blue? Why should google help to improve WP or Bing? Isn't that very obvious??

False equivalency - That would mean that Google would block youtube ENTIRELY off WPx, They DON'T.

Scroogled again. I'm mostly done with YouTube, and have tried to get what I can out of Vimeo instead.

100 % behind Google... M$ would do the same thing to Google if they didn't follow the rules.

Frankly, I'm backing Google on this one. Microsoft has been out for blood in its advertising against Google, throwing out fearmongering ads about malware and acting like Google is an evil data mining company out for the family jewels. If I were in an executive position at Google, and a competitor was that childish toward my company in its ads and public statements while willfully breaking the terms of service I laid out for my app on their system, you better believe I'd virtually shut down all app support. After all, if Google is really such an awful company, Microsoft should be happy not to have Google's apps on their OS. Microsoft is the deceptive piece of crap in this battle, and I spit on them with all the venom I can muster. And yeah, I know you WP guys with your unwarranted sense of entitlement will hate what I've just said. I don't care, because sometimes the truth hurts. Your favorite company is deliberately doing things to screw you out of a good experience just so they can attack Google some more over it.

I LOVE that google is blocking Windows from making You Tube apps. If I ran Google I would block Windows from ALL Google products until they pulled their hands out of the Android cookie jar.

You know what would happen if Microsoft would block EVERYTHING Google has done? I mean in Windows... Cause you know, most of the computers are Windows. Google would be so screwed. But yeah this is pathetic from Google (well what else can you expect).

If it was the same way around then Google wouldn't get the Mobile Office apps and then the other apps that are given out from Windows if that was the case. They just need to make a compromise, let people either get the app and pay for it without the adds if that is the case to give Google some profit on the income. Let the WP8 users get the app because the YouTube app that they made was the only one that allowed for actual playlist watching and the same full functions of the Google based Android one.
