With iOS 11, you can shut down your Apple iPhone or Apple iPad without using the power button

So let's say that for some reason you cannot use any buttons to turn off your Apple iPhone or Apple iPad. For the purposes of this story, assume that the power button (sleep/wake) is not working. As a result, pressing the power button and the home button is also not resetting your device. Since the Apple iPhone 7 doesn't have a mechanical home button, a change was made. To reset the phone, users have to press the power button for 3 seconds, and press volume down while still pressing the power button. But again, we are assuming that this method is not working.

Is there a way to turn off the iPhone or iPad that doesn't require a button? Well, you can always keep the phone or tablet running until the battery is dead. That would do the trick, although it obviously is not a practical solution. With iOS 11, however, there is a software based method that will shut down your iOS device. Go to Settings > General > Shut Down (in blue font on bottom) > Slide power button to the right.

Besides a glitch or a problem causing the buttons to fail, perhaps there is a reason why you can't use physical buttons. Whatever the reason, if you are having trouble turning off your iPhone or iPad with the usual methods, remember that with iOS 11 installed, you can shut down your phone or tablet with the aforementioned four easy steps.

Thanks PhoneArena I really did not know this new feature. I know this exists on Android several years ago since they need to restart the phone several times in one day due to lags and to gain more RAM and then more smoothness.

Really? If that's true, then it must be the same reason Apple is adding it then? I can't think when was the last time I ever needed to restart my phone. All computers shoukd be restarted every so often to refresh the OS. You dont have to restart for more ram, that is what task managers are for. To bad you dont have suxh minute control in his. The more you try to put Android down, the more stupid you look.

You don’t need to be so angry. This is reality and you need to live with.... Maybe you need to restart yourself to be more smooth and cool.

I restart my 7 Plus every 3-4 Days. U should learn it too. Just using your phone as a feature phone doesn’t make sense. Power button is on the right side of the phone. Try it. Or buy S8/note 8 then u can even restart using bixby without even touching phone. Ohh but those phones don’t need frequent restart like iPhones or other cheaper android phones I guess.

You realize you are referring to the 6 year old iPhone 4s, correct? That is 8 months prior to the Galaxy s3 release.

Yup I know I'm refrring to which phone. My only point was he said "No need to restart an iPhone....." An iPhone means it can be any iPhone(3G,3GS,4,4S......) :)
