Unlocked Sony Xperia Z3 available to order in the US from Sony Store

Besides allowing customers in the US to buy the Xperia Z3 Compact and Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact, Sony is now also offering the Xperia Z3, unlocked, via its official online store.

The smartphone’s price is $ 679.99, and Sony says that the estimated shipping date is November 10 - that’s early next week. All four color variants of the Z3 are available to order: black, white, silver green, and copper.

As you most probably know, the Z3 is Sony’s latest flagship smartphone, being introduced as the successor to the Xperia Z2. The Z3 is thinner and faster than the older model, while offering a better display (albeit similar in size and resolution), and an enhanced rear camera. To learn more about the new handset, check out our Xperia Z3 review.

Of course, if you’re not a fan of buying smartphones at full prices upfront, you can also get the Z3 from T-Mobile, which is offering it for $0 down and $26.25 per month for two years (voice and data costs not included).

As a reminder, the Xperia Z3, Z3 Compact and Z3 Tablet Compact will be among Sony’s first devices to be updated to Android 5.0 Lollipop (starting early 2015).

What about the picture quality?

Picture quality is good except if you unlock your bootloader. Then it turns to crap due to some DRM crap of Sony's. It's their way of punishing the developers and power users who love their phones.

It's the same price in our region. iphones6 and 6+ cost around $800-$1000 so if your gonna be asking me it's a good deal compare to an under spec overpriced smartphone that can only launch apps.

That actually is the price range of "UNLOCKED" flagship phones. If you say a Nexus, you might want to visit a country where its price ain't subsidized. Want a shirt?

$680? That's actually pretty cheap for an unlocked Sony phone. I still can't stand how people bashing the price of a flagship phone. It is something you use everyday and almost every minute. If you don't want to spend that kind of money to get a flagship device, please feel free to get a mid or low range phone.

People from the US are too used to getting phones carrier-locked... So when they see unlocked pricing they think its too much...

What idiots.. this is the price for a premium phone,, what more do you want? At least you get a great long lasting battery,, water and dust proofing.. Qualcomm Quick Charge.. with a proprietary charger a great camer,, ps4 functions.. and a thin slim design and less bloatware.. more to stock than Samsung and LG and a few others.... all we do is complain...

Shockingly its pricier than the iPhone 6. To be fair, it probably costs a lot more than the iphobe 6 to make. However, Apple rips people off big time and it's duscouraging to see Sony trying the same thing.

How did it become pricier? $680 outright. Zero contract, own it immediately. Did Apple fanboyism killed your math basics?

Yes with the possible exception of ATT's latest LTE band. But this will not be a big deal for most people.

In Canada this is $699 while the iPhone 6 is $749. So that's actually not bad in Canada. However, if Apple is only $649 in the states, no excuses Sony, this should be $599 or less.

Here in Malaysia, it's cheaper then similar flagships. Not sure why Sony does the US pricing like this.

That's a troll question, right? Sony Xperia is manufactured in Japan and they have to pay extra cost like tax, shipping, marketing, etc. just to distribute it in U.S. Same with iPhone that have to pay extra cost to sell their gadgets outside America. If they adapt Xioami's business plan that might lower their device costing in the future.

Wow, people really don't know the price of unlocked flagship phones huh? And if you say anything about the Nexus phone, please go in every other country where Nexus phones' prices are not subsidized.

Or they're just too stupid to read the whole article. They even say iPhone 6 is much cheaper, what just happened to the world?
