Sony's affordable Xperia E3 is now available to buy (only in India for the moment)

Earlier this month, when Sony announced the Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 Compact, it also introduced a less advanced handset, namely the Xperia E3. As it turns out, the E3 is the first among the three new smartphones to become available.

Starting this week, the Xperia E3 can be bought in India. The single SIM version of the handset costs about $196 (11,990 INR), while the dual SIM one is priced at about $200.

Running Android 4.4 KitKat, the Sony Xperia E3 sports a 4.5-inch IPS display with 480 x 854 pixels and a pretty low 218 ppi density. Other features include LTE connectivity, 5 MP rear camera with LED flash, VGA front-facing camera, quad-core 1.2 GHz Snapdragon 400 processor, 1 GB of RAM, 4 GB of internal memory, and microSD card support. The new handset weighs 144 grams, measures 137.1 x 69.4 x 8.5 mm, and includes a 2330 mAh battery.

While the Xperia E3 will likely not be released in the US, it’s going to be launched in Europe in the near future. For example, it’s expected to be available in the UK starting September 29, via Amazon (for £149.99).

Sony is losing big time, so they could just make all of its handset super affordable before its config goes obsolete. I like sony but i am not buying any of its handset simply because there are a lot better brands to choose from (read: Nexus) and if i am spending a lot of money, i will buy Apple (just being honest - it depreciate very very slow).

I'm still rocking the original Z. I think that Sony is worth spending money on as along as you like what they have to offer. But their prices are comparable to Apple, so I think it really depends on what you prefer and where you live. I live in the US, where Sony hasn't bothered to go all out. So my Z is unlocked, but I don't have all the bands for proper coverage. If you plan on moving carriers a lot or travel, then I think I'd choose Apple iPhone 6 because it has so many bands that you'd be covered everywhere. Thats something that matters to me because my Z ran 3G HSPDA on AT&T and then I switched to T-Mobile and all I get is EDGE now. Also the 6 month releases are gonna kill your smartphone value if you go for Z3.

lol that's almost as much as Moto G and almost twice as much as as the Android One devices that have similar specs to the E3. Good luck selling that.....

LOL.... Sony's managers and designers have probably spent the last year on Mars and didn't realize that the Moto G raised the bar in the mid-low range. With that screen resolution and that amount of internal memory it should cost no more than $100.

It has same spec as moto-g except the screen resolution and internal memory. But it has LTE connectivity. So this price is reasonable. Can you give the same comments while HTC and Samsung price their low mid range phones?

It's the Sony handsets like this E3 is the reason why Sony is loosing money. The new Moto G is probably the same price in India. I think Sony needs to do some restructuring and fire a bunch of overpaid execs. I wish them luck next year.

I agree that sony is pricing their handset high. That is true in the case of T3, M2 and C3. But i think this phone is priced rightly. The spec is similar to Moto-G except screen and Internal storage. But Moto-G doesn't have LTE and this one is having LTE.

you may search amazon for moto G and find some answers with LTE

Sony again failed to understand the market. There is moto G [2014] & redmi 1s for even half the price in India.. 4G does not matter in India as only 2-3 major cities are having the coverage.. So it's gonna be epic fail sony!!!
