Sony invites press for September 4th event: is the Honami coming?
Sony’s upcoming Honami aka Sony i1 flagship is drool-worthy stuff. Said to be packing a 20-megapixel camera, it has the ambition to become the best Android cameraphone. Now, Sony has sent out press invites for September 4th when the IFA show kicks off and chances are we’ll get to finally see the official Honami unveiling then.

What’s weird is the time Sony sends out this invitation - nearly two months prior to the event, way too early. Obviously Sony wants us to get ready for its big unveiling ahead of time.

The press invite reads: “you are invited to the ifa 2013 Sony press conference and exciting booth unveiling.”

Sony will starts its keynote on September 4th, from 4:15pm to 5:00pm, and we’ll of course cover it all as it happens. The Sony Honami is rumored to have a 5-inch 1080p display and run on the Snapdragon 800 chip.

The Japanese company, though, won’t be the only one to capture your attention. Right around then we expect Samsung to unveil the Galaxy Note III, a device that could steal Sony’s thunder.

What puzzles me about Sony is the displays on their smartphones. They are really just okay at best. One would think that because of the television business the displays would be in the top 3 but never. The Z is good but look at the contrast, brightness...I mean all the specs, I compared it to the optimus g pro and the htc one and its striking how much better the others are. Oh by the way why does everyone bust the the balls of HTC for not marketing or spending enough cash..when was the the last time you saw a television commercial for a Sony phone? HTC 10 billion dollar company vs Sony a 80 billion dollar company.

As someone who's currently using a POS iPhone 3G (yes, I'm using that POS), I can't wait to get my hands on this thing and liberate myself once and for all from the Apple business model and locked down OS that won't even let me update any of the apps I have installed on my phone. I totally dislike how Apple forces its customers to upgrade their devices because future iterations of their OS updates will not support legacy hardware.

if the pictures we saw of Xperia Z like phone is honami then im little let down, i was hoping for little change in design, i like the front of Xperia ZL and how its bezels are thin, could have used that atleast in honami. none the less, i have waited for good phones for far too long this year, every phone had some drawbacks that have been released so far, this honami seems to be best match even with old design. ill be getting that phone even if xperia z with new sensor and processor is so called honami.

I was really excited for that, but could find anything :( I hope this one isnt buildups My next phone will probably be either the S4, One, Honami, Lumia 1020/909, G2 or maybe iPhone 5/5S (depending on how good iOS 7 is, havent had a good look at it yet but not really liking it).

The reason is simple. They want to attract people on the same day that Nokia gonna bring true camera innovations.

Consumers' needs evolve overtime In the early 2000's , NOKIA can almost get away with everything for as long as it has a feature-packed camera function Welcome to's all about hardware muscle and gimmicky stuff perhaps you want to take a peek at how well the Lumia line sold since its inception

u seem the one who wants to take a peak at how well lumia line is selling....according to official reports(both nokia and apple) its growth is a lot more than iphone and its taking the lead in countries pushing iphone out on these countries (india the third country (after us and china) using smartphone is one of them)

Such as what? It's not 41mp? The hardware in the Lumia can't even tickle the reported specs of the Honami aside from the camera.

And with year coming to an end , sony is set to end it on a high. I wonder what will Xperia Z2 be if Honami itself is sounding so good :O

Good for Sony, and I like their sensor technology. Howevever, 20MP is still half of what the Nokia Lumia 1020 is packing ;o)

Camera is not the only thing that makes a great smartphone

Indeed, 1080 high quality screen, no outdated closed WP, fast CPU and not a dual core outdated one, real customization, good battery and light weight is what that makes a great smartphone too.

Your piece of junk Android is most likely compromised and infested with malware. Sucks to have a device that uses an open source OS with a master key, huh?

you have to illegally side load an app to get virus in any os. or if you download the weird junky looking apps which is not made by known developer or reviewed by known tech reviewer you are more likely to get virus on your (pc, mac, android) what i mean to say is, you have to be a real dumb fu*k to get virus on your phone. which you sound like.

wp 8(not 7) is closed??? its as open as android (except sideloading apps)....snapdragon s4 plus (which is 10 times better that the s400 found in the mega 6.3 and s4 mini and has the same features of s4 pro and s600..check QUALCOMM website) is outdated ???? it seems u r so not knowing in this space wp has customizations ,customized tiles and tiles wallpapers and others, wps have one of the best battery lives( the lumia 720(60h and 2000mah) has one of the best endurance ratings on gsmarena)...most wp's r light weight (except the 920) wp's r pretty good smartphones according to ur points not to mention their super cameras ... and it seems also that u r so ignorant about wp(and processors) so why do u comment about things u r so ignorant about !!!

I find it amazing that mods don't see pathetic comments like this as "trolling" ??? On the other hand, make a negative statement about android in any thread (regardless of how factually correct it may be) and you're guaranteed to have it removed promptly
