Samsung's TIZEN phone might be the one using Super AMOLED HD Plus screen with RGB matrix

Samsung's TIZEN phone might be the one using Super AMOLED HD Plus screen with RGB matrix
Samsung is working hard on its GT-I9500 poster boy for the new mobile operating system TIZEN it is developing in conjunction with Intel and others, and we even saw it handled in a leaked video recently.

Now another rumor came that claims the device, codenamed Fraser, has stolen our precious Super AMOLED HD Plus screen that features 720p resolution and a regular RGB matrix from the Galaxy S III, where everyone was expecting it.

Of course, it's one thing to make such screen in limited supplies for developer devices and testing, another to mass produce it for millions of handsets, which the Galaxy S III will undoubtedly sell.

Well, just the thought that this screen might exist and already be in a device is warming our hearts, despite that Samsung touted the increased longevity of AMOLED screens with PenTile vs RGB matrices.

I really wonder why Samsung is wasting time on making yet another Android clone. I know its good for brand recognition, but is it really needed? I think Tizen can really become something special, but it won't stand out of the crowd looking exactly the same way Bada and Touchwiz Android does. I think its just plain silly. I hope the screens will soon be released on a mainstream Samsung phone, but I myself prefer the Clear Black Amoled, Nokia uses.

i agree. - though if it has special features and can run android apps, well that's something - especially since intel is partnered here, we might be seeing an x86 superphone from Samsung - for the geeky audience, considering it's also in the i9XXX series...

I don't believe it will need to be able to run Android apps to become succesful, HTML5 webapps might be the future anyway.

its not really meant to "stand out" as much as it is to become mature in the background should something ever happen to Android. Say android implodes in 2013.. Samsung has a back up OS already matured and ready to fight in the prime time fight with iOS and WP7 without its growing pains becomming national news like it is with WP7. The fact that its similar to android is actually a good thing, because if the Tinzen clause ever needs to be enacted, people will be instantly familiar with it and might jump to it in droves.

good point of view. didn't see it that way... although I don't see Android going anywhere in the near future and if that happens, Windows Phone attacks - Tizen might be the new Symbian.

For a while it looked like there was a chance Android might be in danger. Samsung already has to pay microsoft and google to use android on their phones, and had the courts swung in apple's favor, they would have done everything they could to block android sales. They had BADA as their back up plan but it was more of a nice feature phone than a full fledged smartphone, so Tizen is taking its place. Samsung has never been a company to put all its eggs in one basket. If you look at its history and current status, they like to keep multiple options open for everything, just in case one fails. That may make them less money than Apple because they are spreading it out so much, but if tomorrow iOS was banned from the world, Apple would crumble back down to a small computer company since it leansthe bulk of its business on iphone sales. If android was banned from the world tomorrow, samsung would just launch more Tizen and WP7/8 devices to shore up sales and move on.

If you think about it, there are plenty of good reason for tizen 1. Google's acquisition of Motorola - Despite what everyone says, if the main OS provider buys your direct competitor, you would worry no matter what the OS provider says 2. Tizen doesn't need dedicated apps since it uses HTML5 3. If the rumors are true and Bada is getting streamlined into Tizen then they're really not adding another OS 4. Having intel as a main supporter is a big deal since it won't be tied down to ARM based platforms As for the Clear Black Amoled, i think it's a samsung supplied panel with some sort of polarizer added on top of it. I would like to see how the new SAMOLED HD does with GG2

I had a feeling samsung would make the tizen flagship much better than the gs3.

Tizen will be the same as its previous life as MeeGo... It will not be popular or worst it would suffer the same fate as Grid OS... WP7,Android and iOS is still here...

I do think there is a future for HTML5 based Operating Systems, apart from Samsung (Tizen), Nokia (Meltemi) and Mozilla (Boot2Gecko) are working on these kind of systems. They might not be in very mature stages at the moment, but with the proper support they can become a threat to the existing operating systems.

So Samsung used PenTile in the GS3 because it's "better"? What a buncha crap. It either wasn't ready or they wanted to use the "HD PLUS" as a special feature to try and push their DOA OS. Before anyone defends Tizen, DOA does not mean POS.

Well who ever thought Android would be threat to Symbian?

most likely they are just testing the hd plus screens and also probably not ready for mass production who knows maybe it has a high fault rate in the production line.agree tizen is not going to be any threat but samsung dont like to put there eggs into one basket, they make sure that if one fails or becomes popular they are in the game already...thats why any os that they can use they use it..if they could use bb or ios am sure they would.

ever think that they know the Tizen isnt going to be a massive seller and they put the screen there so they could test it on a smaller scale? Also, that is not a 4.8 inch screen.

I wouldn't imagine Samsung needs to sell a product to test the component. What about it not being a 4.8" screen.?

they have trouble with Amoled at higher screen sizes for some reason, which is why it hasnt penetrated the tablet. Its a brand new tech, they might be having fabrication issues. Bringing it out in a phone thats smaller at least lets them make money on it while they figure it out. thats 100% conjecture though.. lol Of course, they are bringing out OLED TVs this year.. for only 9000 bux!! :)

9000 bucks!?!?! I'll buy a car with that money! :p $800+ price tag of the SGS3 is already too much for me :(

first adopters pay the price for the new technology. Yea, imma wait till its availible in 70 inches for 3k or less, then I'll probably pick one up.

Give it a chance. What did RIM say when Apple released the iPhone. They just laughed. Did anyone think Android would make it anywhere? No! This isn't Copying, but it isn't quite original. To make the best product, sometimes you have to pull a card from someone else's book. iOS's pull down notifications anyone? Or touchwiz and its iOS look?

Looks like samsung is making a back-up just in case people get bored with the galaxy series
